Abstract

PURPOSE: To pelletize dihydroxydiphenylmethane and to facillitate its handling and transportation, in a short time, with a simple process, by solidifying and crushing pasty or molten dihydroxydiphenylmethane with a kneader.
CONSTITUTION: Molten dihydroxydiphenylmethane heated to 110°C is fed to the hopper 2 of a kneader such as a twin-screw extruder 1. The molten compound is transferred to the right in the A and the C zones, while in the B and the D zones, a part of the compound is transferred to the left as seed crystals. Each screw rotates in opposite directions. The compound is solidified and crushed in the extruder, and extruded as pellets from the outlet 4. The pellet thus obtained has round edges, and easily be handled and transported. When the atmosphere in the kneader is substituted with N2 gas, the discoloration of dihydroxydiphenylmethane can be prevented.
