Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the height of a horizontal type gas absorber by changing an absorption tower to a short absorption tank having plural absorption chambers and packings in a sufficient amount on the basis of the amount of gas to be treated in each absorption chamber.
CONSTITUTION: Gas to be treated is directed into a gas inlet 13 and then passed orderly from below to above through absorption chambers 15, 16, and 17, during which the gas is brought into contact with an absorption liquid on the surface of packings 2 sufficiently wetted by the absorption liquid to absorb components to be absorbed, removed its mists by a demister 10, and then discharged through a gas outlet 14. Since, if the amount of gas to be treated is determined, the amount of packings necessary for the gas treatment is also determined, the height of the apparatus can be reduced by lowering the height of the packing to be packed in each absorption chamber and also by increasing the number of the absorption chambers.
