Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium high in squareness ratio by performing effective orientation by applying an AC magnetic field of more than coercive force of magnetic particles in an orienting direction in the magnetic-field orienting processing of magnetic paint applied onto a base.
CONSTITUTION: Magnetic recording medium 1 obtained by applying the magnetic paint consisting of magnetic particles and a binder onto a base, such as a high molecular film, is passed through the magnetic field of magnetic-field generating means 2 while the paint is not dried and magnetic particles in the coating film can move. Then, magnetic-field generating means 2 is composed of a solenoid which can provide the magnetic coating film with an AC magnetic field of more than the coercive force of magnetic particles, preferably, higher than 10Hz. Next, magnetic recording medium 1 oriented by passing through magnetic-field generating means 2 is dried by a drying means until the magnetic particles in the coating film gets hard to move, so that the desired magnetic recording medium is obtained.
