Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a sealed battery with a small internal resistance which provides an excellent gas-absorbing performance, by using a separator whose main compont is a glass fiber having a fine fiber-diameter, and by making the concentration of the viscous agent of an electrolyte in the center of the assembled element higher than that of an electrolyte in the peripheral part of the assembled element. CONSTITUTION:Separators 3 whose main component is a glass fiber having a diameter of below 1.0mu, are placed between positive plates 1 and negative plates 2, an assembled element 4 being formed. The assembled element 4 is placed in a container 5, and the opening of the container 5 is covered with a lid 6. After that, a sulfuric-acid electrolyte containing 0-3.0wt% of a viscous agent is poured from a pouring hole 7 which also serves as an exhaustion hole, so that the volume of the electrolyte poured is a little smaller than that of the entire-space volume of the assembled element 4. Eventually, a sulfuric-acid electrolyte which contains higher concentration of the viscous agent than the former electrolyte, is poured so that the whole volume of these electrolytes is either the same as or more than the entire-space volume of the assembled element 4. Finally, the pouring hole 7 is equipped with a safety valve 8, thus a sealed lead battery being obtained.
