Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve safety in automatic steering, by equipping an antenna of radio beam on board a ship, detecting an obstacle with said beam and operating an autopilot.
CONSTITUTION: On board a self ship 1 a beam antenna is mounted in such a manner that the direction of a beam 11 can be optionally selected. Said antenna is utilized to emit a radio wave from the self ship 1 and again receive said radio wave, reflected from a radio wave reflecting material 2, by said antenna thus detect the reflecting material 2 as an obstacle on a course of the ship. This detected signal is given to an automatic steering device as an input signal to operate the automatic steering device and avoid a collision of the ship against the obstacle.
