Abstract
PURPOSE: To separate a blood plasma effectively without destroying the plasmic cell, by keeping the positive pressure difference between separating membranes at a specific low pressure difference, and permeating the whole blood through the separating membranes.
CONSTITUTION: The whole blood is fed along one surface of separating membranes, e.g. filmlike or hollow fiber membranes made of cellulose acetate, consisting of a porous material having a pore size of 0.1W0.6μ under the conditions of a flow velocity 5W1,500cm/min and sufficient depth. The blood plasma contained in the blood is permeated through the separating membranes while keeping the positive pressure difference between the separating membranes at just below 50mmHg, preferably about 20W40mmHg, and the resultant separated blood plasma is recovered. The low permeation pressure between the separating membranes permits the separation of a large amount of blood plasma and increase in the sieve coefficient of various components of the blood plasma without clogging a filter. The method is useful for the so-called on-line blood plasma separating method with a permeating membrane.
