Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance of a straight drill, by using a method of electroplating to coat hard abrasive grains such as cubic boron nitride (CBN) grains and diamond grains on a part of the cutting edge of the drill. CONSTITUTION:Two cutting edges 4 are provided on the cutting part 3 of a straight drill 1. Straight cutting edges 6 are also provided on the cutting part 3. Hard abrasive grains 13 such as CBN grains and diamond grains are coated by a method of electroplating on the straight drill at its cutting edges 4, steps 7, 8, the shoulders of the cutting edges 4, small sections of the straight edges 6, the shoulders 9, 10 of the steps 7, 8 and small sections of straight cutting edges 11, 12. These portions to be coated with the abrasive grains are previously recessed. As a result, cutting including finish is effected more accurately, beautifully and efficiently with high resistance to wear.
