Abstract

PURPOSE:To keep the ring shape communication network and to increase the reliability, by connecting the photo coupler of 3 or 4 terminals to the terminal control unit in ring shape connection and selecting the forward, reverse and folding transmission at each terminal unit. CONSTITUTION:The ring shape photo communicaton unit is constituted by connecting the terminal units 20-23 in ring shape with the lines 10-12 formed with optical fibers, and data transmission is made to a given direction normally, data transmission and reception is made among the units 20-23 to deliver the message of line monitor. To the terminal control unit 7 of the units 20-23, the light-electric converter 5 and electric-light conversion unit 6 are connected, and the photo switches 3 and 4 are respectively connected to the units 5 and 6. Further, the directional couplers 1, 2 of 3 or 4 terminals are connected to the switches 3, 4, and when the failure of lines is detected due to missing of the monitoring message, the folding transmission is made to the terminals 20 and 23 at the both ends of failed line and bidirectional transmission of light is made to other terminals 21 and 22 to constitute the new ring shape communication network of single line and bidirectional transmission and to hold the lines.
