Abstract

PURPOSE: To compress the band of an analog signal by obtaining a signal with its entropy reduced by attaining the digital band compression processing of an analog signal and then by converting the obtained signal into an analog signal.
CONSTITUTION: A time-series video signal inputted to input terminal 1 is supplied to differential amplifier 12 to calculate a difference from a signal one picture element before, which is converted into a difference signal of its digital value. Non-linear quantizing unit 13 consists of level comparators 11a∼11d, and coder 16 assigning previously-fixed codes corresponding to their outputs. Comparators 11a∼11d perform quantization finely when the absolute value of the quantization level is small or coarsely when large. Coder 16 assigns a short code to a signal high in generation probability. Although the coded signal is outputted from terminal 19, part of it is decoded 14 and added 15 to signal 17 preceding by one picture element. To process a next picture element, it is converted 18 into an analog signal, which is inputted to amplifier 12. The signal processed in this way is converted into an analog signal, which is further compressed and modulated into a signal adequate for recording before being outputted.
