Abstract
PURPOSE: One of actinomycetes microorganism which belongs to Pseudonocardia, assimilates methanol and can produce vitamin B12 is cultured in a culture medium containing methanol as the major carbon source to produce cells of Actinomycetes microorganism containing vitamin B12 and being useful as a protein source.
CONSTITUTION: An Actinomycetes microorganism which belongs to Pseudonocardia, assimilate methanol and produce vitamin B12, e.g., Pseudonocardia methanolignica (FERM-4747) or Pseudonocardia yukotis (FERM-4746), is cultured in a culture medium containing methanol as the major carbon source and a cobalt salt, e.g., cobalt chloride, at a temperature of 37W45°C and a pH about 6.5W7 for about 2W5 days. Thereby th cells of Actinomycetes microorganism containing a large amount of vitamin B12 accumulated are obtained in high yield.
