Abstract
PURPOSE:To eliminate surely defective tracks to prevent generation of reproducing errors by skipping defective tracks according to track defect signals which are recorded on a recording medium previously. CONSTITUTION:When the defect signal of a corresponding defective track which is recorded in the flag area of a magnetic tape, etc., previously is reproduced and detected by reproducing head 204, the defective track is skipped through track positioning circuit 208 according to the defect decision signal, which is outputted from control circuit 210, by AND between the defect signal and the timing signal from timing generation circuit 201 dependent upon AND gate 202, and the next indefectible track in the information area becomes a recording and reproducing enable state through storage unit 209. Consequently, defective tracks are eliminated surely, so that reproducing errors dependent upon use of defective tracks, etc., can be prevented.
