Abstract

PURPOSE: The esterification of terephthalic acid with glycols is conducted in the presence of a phosphorus compound with a specific structure, then an antimony compound is added, and the polycondensation reaction is effected, thus producing polyester with high heat stability, transparency and excellent color.
CONSTITUTION: The esterification of (A) difunctional carboxylic acids mainly containing terephthalic acid with (B) glycols is conducted in the presence of (C) a phosphorus compound of the formula (n is 1 or 2, preferably 2; R1 and R3 are H, monovalent hydrocarbyl; R2 is divalent hydrocarbyl, preferably CH2, CH2CH2, C6H4), wherein C/A is 0.2×10-4W20×10-4 by mole. Then, an antimony compound as antimony trioxide (D) is added to the product and the polycondensation reaction is effected, wherein D/A is 1×10-4W10×10-4 by mole.
