Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a double phase deviation value or more with the same hardware as a normal phase modulator by providing a phase modulator with a phase shifting method for a carrier, both-sideband modulator and method of mixing the carrier and both-sideband modulated wave.
CONSTITUTION: A carrier inputted from carrier source 1 to hybrid 2 is branched into two and one is applied to both-sideband modulator 8, which generate both- sideband modulated wave e2 by a modulated input from a terminal provided to it. The other is inputted to phase shifter 6 to generate 90°-out-of-phase carrier e1 and both modulated wave e2 and carrier e1 are mixed by hybrid 5 to output phase modulated-wave output e0 from output terminal 7. Consequently, a phase deviation value increases and even when the phase deviation value is increased by using a multiplier, the number of multiplication stages can be reduced to half, so that this unit can be miniaturized.
