Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform highly accurate focusing with a simple constitution by giving the specified weights to the time series illuminance signals of the proximate two positions at the image scanning with an image sensor or the like then subsequently integrating the same and making image evaluation indices.
CONSTITUTION: The image sensor 3 provided in the oposition optically conjugate with the film plane or the like is scanned and driven by a driver 4 and the time series illuminance signals of the proximate two positions of the images formed in the sensor 3 by the respective photoelectric transduces of the sensor 3 are detected by a delay circuit 8, differential amplifier 9, etc. The illuminance difference detection signals are weighted by a gamma conversion circuit 11 and are subsequently integrated in an integrating circuit 12. If these integrated outputs as imaging evaluation indices are compared with the similar imaging evaluation indices of the case when optical lengths have changed by an optical path length changeover means 14 which is driven in synchronization with the time series scanning of the sensor 3 and the means 14 is feedback-controlled, then the positions before and after the focusing are detected together with the focus position.
