Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a hydrolyzate polysaccharide useful for an immunoregulator of cancer, anticular rheumatism, etc., easily soluble in water and capable of forming an aqueous solution scarcely being gelled, by treating a polysaccharide produced by a fungus of corticiaceal with formic acid, followed by hydrolysis.
CONSTITUTION: A polysaccharide, which basidiomycete, a fungus of corticiaceae, for example, a genus of corticium, produces as a metabolic product, is treated with formic acid, and hydrolyzed. In the preparation of a hydrolyzate polysaccharide from the polysaccharide, a starting material, for example, 70W90wt% formic acid is added to the polysaccharide, and stirred at 80W100°C for from 5 minutes to one hour. Formic acid is removed under pressure, water is added to the residue and reflux under heating is continued until deformylation is over. The resulting gelatinous material is removed by centrifugation,an organic solvent is added to the supernatant liquid to precipitate deposists, which are collected. A glucan consisting of β-(1→3) bond as a backbone chain and β-(1→6) bond as a side chain is obtained.
