Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the soft flotation material featuring a sufficient buoyancy even in the sea abyss of several hundred meters by impregnating the liquid incompatible to the vulcanized rubber into the same rubber containing the glass microballoon. CONSTITUTION:The glass microballoon of 25-35wt% is compounded with kneading into the unvulcanized rubber (such as siliconerubber KE441RTV manufactured by Shinetsu Kagaku Co. Ltd.) of the visc liquid type featuring a low density. Thus the argillaceous synthetic foaming agent is obtained. This foaming agent is then put into the desired mold for molding by about 1-2kg/cm<2> and then vulcanized. Then the vulcanized rubber is soaked into the solution incompatible to the vulcanized rubber (such as the olive oil) with application of the pressure higher than the using pressure, and then the above mentioned solution is impregnated into the rubber to obtain the flotation material featuring the specific gravity of 0.55-0.65. Such flotation material is used suitably in the outer shell of the electric wire and other cables which are required to keep the neutral buoyance in the sea for increment of their buoyancy.
