Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst with a high activation but less in deterioration therein by bringing a catalyst with Pa and Sb, Bi, Se and the like supported by an activated charcoal into contact with acetic acid or the like following reduction and oxidation with methanol and oxygen followed by a reduction with hydrogen. CONSTITUTION:A solid catalyst composed of Pa and one or more kinds of Sb, Bi, Se and Te supported by an activated charcoal undergoes a reduction/oxidation treatment more than once which comprises a reduction by a methanol gas and a subsequent oxidation by molecular oxygen. Then, it is brought into contact with acetic acid and molecular oxygen and then, subjected to a reduction by hydrogen gas. Otherwise, it is possible that after a treatment by hydrogen gas, the catalyst is subjected to an oxidation/reduction treatment comprising an oxidation by a molecular oxygen and a reduction by a hydrogen gas. Preferably, the reduction by methanol gas is conducted at 300 to 500 deg.C under the normal to several atoms and the oxidation by molecular oxygen at 200 to 600 deg.C.
