Abstract

PURPOSE: To compress by a large margin the volume of codes which should be sent out, by removing the redundancy of a facsimile signal.
CONSTITUTION: A facsimile signal for one line is inputted from input terminal 1 to memory 2. A signal for a reference line is imputted to memory 3 for it. Under the control of circuit 5, data in memories 2 and 3 are sequentially read out at the same time from the position of initial-point picture element (a0). By making a comparison between the above-mentioned read signal and the signal just before it, picture- element change detection circuits 11 and 12 send a signal of "0" when their levels are equal or a signal of "1" when not. On detecting a change in picture element, circuit 11 sends an output of "1" to (a1) detection circuit 21 and counter 32 in process of counting from the point in time of (a0) setting stops and sends its count value to coding circuit 52. Circuit 53 receives a signal from counter 33 which starts counting by either preceding signal of (b1) or (a1) and stops counting by the other and this signal is passed through gates 71 and 72 and then converted by circuit 90 into a string of codes to be outputted, which is outputted 100.
