Abstract

PURPOSE:To make easier machining and heating processes as well as raise accuracy by constructing a mask of a steel plate with a nickel-electrodeposited layer having a number of small holes whose hole wall is almost vertical and also whose sectional area is opened toward outside in combination with small holes. CONSTITUTION:A shadow mask is constituted of the steel plate 2 with the nickel layer 1 having the small holes 4 leading to the tapered large holes 3. The thickness of the nickel layer 1 is 4-30 micron m and the thickness of steel plate on the large hole side, having a sectional area opening toward outside for the hole wall leading to the small hole 4, is 0.05-0.2mm and also its pitch is 0.1-0.35mm. If, in etching, the nickel portions 6 and 7 extending into the large hole 3 of the steel plate 2 are too great, the portions 6 and 7 are liable to deform and also the distance between slits in slit hole tends to be disordered, so that the nickel portions 6 and 7 are preferably at most 70% of the impermeable portion 8 between the small holes 4 of the nickel layer 1.
