Abstract

PURPOSE: To accomplish mass production of turbine wheels for turbocharger, by shaping a portion of shaft and the axial bore of turbine wheel made of sintered silicon nitride in a special form, and thereby enabling to manufacture the turbine wheels and shafts independently from each other.
CONSTITUTION: A hub 4 formed with an axial bore 3 is formed at the center of turbine wheel 1 for turbocharger having a multiplicity of blades 2. The axial bore 3 is shaped to have a non-circular cross section consisting of an irregularly curved line. That is, three projections 6 are formed on the inner surface of bore 3 at angular intervals of 120 degrees in the manner that they are projected slightly toward the center of bore 3 from a large circle 5 constituting the inner surface of bore 3, and these projections 6 and large circle 5 are connected by smooth curves. Further, a stopper hole 9 is formed in the axial bore 3, and a shaft 7 made of sintered silicon nitride and having a non-circular cross section conforming to that of bore 3 is couples to turbine wheel 1 by inserting the same into bore 3. That shaft 7 is formed with a stopper projection 12 to be fitted into said mating stopper hole 9.
