Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce title polymer which produces a tough molded article having excellent heat resistance, by a method wherein arom. diamine is polymerized with arom. tricarboxylic acid anhydride in the presence of a specified solvent and then the resulting polymer is subjected in the form of powders to solid-phase polymn.
CONSTITUTION: An arom. diamine is reacted with an arom. tricarboxylic acid anhydride in an equimolar ratio in the presence of a solvent selected from dialkylacetamide, dimethylformamide, hexamethyl phosphoramide, tetramethylurea, N-substd. lactam and arom. ring-substd. arom. nitrogen-contg. heterocyclic cpd. in an amount of 10W100wt% of the solvent based on the amount of the produced polymer at a temp. of 100W350°C while distilling off by-product water and solvent until a reduced viscosity of 0.1W0.40 is obtained. The resulting low polymer is crushed and is subjected in the form of powder at a temp. of 250W350°C to solid- phase polymn.
