Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the precision of pattern recognition by detecting the virtual terminal point of a chained pattern through scanning and by erasing the unneeded part of the pattern on the basis of this terminal point until its branch point is detected.
CONSTITUTION: The pattern drawn in entry frames (t1) and (t2) has chained unneccessary parts and then, stored in memory unit 1 after being made into a thin wire. Data in unit 1 are read out sequentially by output signal 23 of control circuit 2, sent to pattern scanning circuit 3, and supplied to unnecessary part erasing circuit 6. When a character is scanned 3 bit by bit, the position of the terminal point of the character is detected 4 on the basis of the two-dimentional virtual-terminal- point mask pattern. Detecting the terminal point, the output signal of scanning circuit 3, i.e. the character is erased 6 in consequence the identification as an unneccessary part, and rewritten to unit 1. When the terminal point is not detected 4, on the other hand, the character is rewritten to unit 1 as it is without being erased 6
