Abstract
PURPOSE: To form a liquid crystal optical device having sufficiently wide visual angle characteristics by using non-optical active transparent high polymer resins as two sheets of transparent substrates provided with transparent electrode layers sandwiching liquid crystal from both sides.
CONSTITUTION: After primer treatment is applied to non-rotatory transparent high polymer resin sheets 1, 1, required transparent electrodes 4, 5 are respectively provided therein by a vapor deposition, sputtering or like method and both are bonded by a sealing material 3. Liquid crystal 6 is filled in their inside and further polarizers 2, 2 are disposed on both sides thereof to provide the liquid crystal optical device. Cellulosics such as cellulose di(tri) acetate, cellulose butyrate and other or amorphous high polymer resins such as acrylic, polycarbonate resins, etc. formed by casting or dry lamination are desirable as the abovemenetioned non-optical active transparent high polymer resins. In addition, odrinary crystalline oriented high polymer resins optical active resins) may also be used if their optical activity may be removed by disturbing their crystallinity through heat treatment, radiation treatment, etc.
