Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide an apparatus for manufacturing tubular bulb, which is equipped with a sealing burner adapted for heating and fusing the joing of peripheral portion of the stem and opening of a bulb and an evacuating head adapted for evacuating the inside of the bulb and charging the bulb with substances to be sealed therein, whereby it is enabled to carry out sealing process and evacuating process continuously.
CONSTITUTION: Bulb 1, held in place by means of chuck, is transported in the direction of arrow B to a position whoen in the drawing and waits there to receive some process. The base mounting thereon a mount 2 and evacuating head 30 are moved in the direction of arrow A and stopped at a position where flared portion 4 is held in contact with the opening end of bulb 1. When sealing burner 11 is subsequently ignited, gas flame issued from flame hole 12 is directed toward the joint between bulb 1 and flared portion 4, so tha the joint is heated and fused together by the flame and thus sealed airtightly. When the sealing process is complated, bulb 1 is evacuated from hole 34 through evacuating tube 7. Then, mercury and inert gas are charged into the bulb 1 from the holes 34 through tube 7, thereby completing evacuating process.
