Abstract

PURPOSE: To automate inspection of a meter, bill collection, etc., by making a hole for passing the light through the rotary disc of a home watthour meter and converting the indication into an electric signal. CONSTITUTION: A minimum hole 2 for passing light is made through the rotary disc 5 of an existing home watthour meter and a light source 1 is disposed on one side of the disc 5 while a light receiving unit 3 is disposed on the opposite side. Light from the light source 1 is detected by the light receiving unit 3 only when the light passes through the hole 2. Consequently, accumulated electric energy can be measured by counting the number of detected times and can be converted easily into an electric signal. Position, number and shape of the hole 2 in the disc 5 are not specified so long as the hole can pass the light. Since the data of electric energy can be taken out electrically, the watthour meter can be coupled with other unit or system and the data can be accumulated, counted, or displayed. For example, inspection of a meter and bill collection can be automated by connecting the watthour meter with other unit or system.
