Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a cosmetic such as a beauty water or a milky lotion used under dry conditions and having a sufficient and high moisture-retaining ability. CONSTITUTION:The cosmetic is characterized by containing (A) N-(3- carboxypropanoyl)-6-0-(carboxymethyl) chitosan of the formula (M is H, alkali metal; (n) is 10-5000) and (B) an acidic mucopolysaccharide such as carboxymethyl chitin, hyaluroic acid, chondroitin sulfate, dermatan sulfate, keratan sulfate or heparin in an A:B weight ratio of 9.5:0.5 to 0.5:9.5, preferably 9.0:1.0 to 1.0-9.0, in a total amount of 0.001-5wt.%, preferably 0.005-3wt.%.

DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION As a result of intensive studies to solve the above problems, the present invention has found that the use of CPCM chitosan and a specific acidic mucopolymate in a certain ratio enhances the moisturizing power. The acidic mucopolysaccharides used in the present invention are carboxymethyl chitin, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin-4-sulfate, chondroitin-6-sulfate, dermatan sulfate, keratan sulfate and heparin.

Carboxymethyl chitin is obtained by carboxymethylating the hydroxy group at the 6-position of chitin to make it water-soluble, and its production method is described in JP-A-59-106409.
