[Prior Art] Conventionally, input to a character processing device is made from a keyboard, etc., but the operator must be accustomed to operating the keyboard, and the manuscript creator requires considerable skill in order to input as is. . Therefore, methods have been devised to allow a device to read a handwritten manuscript as it is, for example, optically, to facilitate input.

However, even in the way handwritten manuscripts are written, there are often differences between the characters in the official manuscript and the characters at the draft stage, such as abbreviations such as ``〓'', ``〓'', ``〓'', etc.

[Objective] In view of the above points, it is an object of the present invention to provide a character processing device that reads a manuscript and outputs a fair copy of the same, and in particular can output regular characters for abbreviations. .

FIG. 1 is a block diagram showing the configuration of a character processing device that is an embodiment of the present invention. In the figure 1
A character reading section optically reads an inserted document and outputs a character pattern signal S1 for each character in the document. Reference numeral 2 denotes a character recognition unit, which searches a character pattern data storage unit 3 that stores character pattern data of a plurality of regular characters and abbreviations corresponding to the regular characters in advance, and reads the character pattern S1 sent from the character reading unit 1. Outputs the character code S2 that most matches the character code S2. The character code S2 output from the character recognition unit 2 has a 16-bit structure, for example, as shown in FIG. An abbreviation bit is added to indicate the character code, and the 15 bits indicated by b indicate the character code. In this embodiment, when the abbreviation bit is "1", it indicates an abbreviation, and when it is "0", it indicates a regular character. Reference numeral 4 denotes a code determination section which determines whether the character code S2 from the character recognition section 2 is an abbreviated code. If it is an abbreviation, the storage device 5 in which the abbreviation-original correspondence table is stored is searched, and the code S3 of the orthographic character is obtained and sent to the character output section 6 which outputs the character. In the storage device 5, as shown in FIG. 3, character codes for abbreviations and character codes for regular characters are in one-to-one correspondence, and by subtracting the character code S2, a regular character code S3 is obtained.

Next, the operation of the character processing device configured as described above will be explained. First, when a certain character pattern on a document is read by the character reading section 1, the character reading section 1 outputs the character pattern signal S1. Character pattern signal S1 output from the character reading section 1
is input to the character recognition section 2, the character recognition section 2 searches the character pattern data storage section 3 for a character pattern that most matches the character pattern signal S1, and then generates a character code S2 corresponding to the searched character pattern.
Output. If the character pattern searched by the character recognition unit 2 is a regular character pattern,
The most significant bit of the character code S2 to be output is "0", and if it is an abbreviation, the most significant bit is "1". Next, the character code output from the character recognition section 2 is determined by the code discriminating section 4 as to whether it is a regular character code or an abbreviated character code by detecting the most significant bit. If the character code S2 output from the character recognition unit 2 is determined to be an orthographic character code,
The character code S2 is directly sent to the character output section 6. Further, when determining that the character code S2 outputted from the character recognition section 2 is an abbreviated character code, the code determination section 4 searches the storage device 5 in which the abbreviated character-orthographic correspondence table is stored, and uses the abbreviated character code. The orthographic code S3 corresponding to is obtained and sent to the character output unit 6 which outputs characters.

In the above embodiment, it is assumed that the abbreviation-orthography correspondence table in the storage device 5 is prepared in advance in the device, but by allowing the manuscript creator to freely rewrite this correspondence table, it is possible to create a manuscript easily. Users can create their own abbreviations. In addition, by assigning multiple orthographic characters to one manuscript abbreviation, it becomes possible to output formal words by writing the abbreviation in the manuscript, and it is also possible to output long words in simple abbreviations. become.
