Conventionally, activated carbon has been known in the form of powder, particles, fibers, etc., and each of these activated carbons has its own characteristics. Granular activated carbon can adsorb compounds with relatively high molecular weights due to the pore characteristics of its surface, and can have a high packing density, resulting in a high total adsorption amount. However, on the other hand, it does not have a fixed shape, and when used as a fixed bed, the pressure loss is large, causing channeling and causing granular coal to flow away or fall off.

In addition, fibrous activated carbon has a high adsorption rate and excellent adsorption properties for low molecular weight compounds, and has a small pressure loss even when used in the form of a sheet by needle punching or the like. However, on the other hand, it has poor adsorption ability for compounds with high molecular weight.

The inventors of the present invention have studied the use of a combination of granular activated carbon and fibrous activated carbon to take advantage of the advantages of both and eliminate their disadvantages as much as possible, and as a result they have arrived at the present invention.

This adsorptive structure is used in a gas phase system or a liquid phase system, and can effectively adsorb a wide range of substances from low molecular weight compounds to relatively high molecular weight compounds from mixed systems thereof. In particular, in water purification treatment, chlorine odor and the odor of algae with a relatively high molecular weight can be removed at a high processing speed.

In the adsorptive structure of the present invention, the granular activated carbon is sandwiched between sheets, and unlike the case where a granular activated carbon layer is used alone, the pressure loss is small.
Moreover, the granular charcoal will not be washed away or fall off. In addition, according to the present invention, the device can be made more compact compared to the case where a layer of granular activated carbon and a layer of fibrous activated carbon are provided separately. Even better adsorption effects can be obtained.

The adsorptive structure shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 can be used as is, but it can also be used by covering the entire structure with a breathable cover material 4 as shown in FIG. 3. It is also possible to heat-seal a portion using a thermoplastic resin, for example, a nonwoven fabric made of heat-fusible fibers such as polyethylene, as the cover material. A plurality of adsorbent structures of the present invention may be stacked and used.
