Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve visibility by taking the smooth side of a sheet obtained by consecutively aligning fine, transparent or translucent triangular pyramids in the form of a plane as the front and providing a bar code and a mark thereon. CONSTITUTION:Each fine triangular pyramid is constituted of three right triangles alpha, beta, and gamma intersected orthogonally with each other. These pyramids are consecutively aligned on a transparent plastic sheet 1 to form a pattern. A metallic film 2 is applied to the front surface of the pattern by vacuum evaporation, and a bar code 3, etc., are printed on the smoother side of the pattern. When the surface where the bar code 3 is attached is used as the front, light made incident on the sheet 1 is reflected in a direction in parallel to the incident light at any angle with which the light is made incident on the sheet 1 and even if the surface is indefinite and bent, and the return light has strong directivity and great light intensity, unlike scattered light. Consequently, the bar code 3, etc., can be read at high accuracy.

Coating the surface of the triangular pyramid with a metal film such as aluminum or chromium by vapor deposition or plating improves light reflection and further increases visibility. Furthermore, by making it of a film-like flexible material such as plastic, it can be used even on curved surfaces.

When a surface with barcodes, labels, etc. attached is used as a front, no matter what angle the incident light enters the sheet surface, or even if that surface is an irregular curved surface, the reflected light will be incident parallel to the incident light. The returned light is reflected in the light direction, and unlike scattered light, the returned light has strong directionality, so the light intensity is high and barcodes etc. can be read with high accuracy.

Fig. 2 is a plan view of an embodiment of the present invention, and Fig. 3 is its F-F
In the enlarged line cross-sectional view, a minute triangular pyramid S consisting of three mutually orthogonal right triangles α, β, and γ is shown on a transparent plastic sheet 1 (a transparent impact-resistant acrylic resin sheet was used in the example). A continuously aligned pattern is formed by embossing with a hot roll or the like, a metal film 2 of aluminum, chromium, etc. is vacuum-deposited on the surface, and a barcode 3 is printed on the smooth side.

Note that the groove spacing λ■7 and the groove depth (height of the triangular pyramid S) D are respectively expressed by the following equations. (See Figure 4) D = ae When the sign sheet configured as described above, that is, the smooth side of the plastic sheet 1 is facing up, is irradiated with light as shown in Figure 3, the shape of the surface of the sheet with the incident light is Regardless of the angle, the incident light g is refracted and reflected by the right triangular surface, and the output light returns to the plane of the incident light g and in the direction of the figure.
