In order to standardize various specifications such as recording/reproducing speed, mechanical dimensions, and modulation method, the reproducing system of optical disc devices necessary for recording and reproducing optical discs is based on the technology developed for CD players. can be reused almost as is. However, the recording system for writing data onto optical disks is currently in the process of being studied using a prototype, and many improvements are expected before it can be put on the market as a mass-produced device.

Since data may be erased by mistake, measures to prevent mistaken erasure are inevitably required. However, methods such as forming a tab on a part of the cassette body to prevent accidental erasure, as with tape cassettes such as audio cassettes and video cassettes, or forming a cutout to prevent accidental erasure, as with floppy disks, cannot be applied. Currently, optical discs have the problem of having to settle for convenient measures against accidental erasure, such as pasting a memorandum on a part of the disc case that houses the optical disc.

However, the use of the 6 R-W channels as backup channels has not been specified, and they are released to the user side. Therefore, in this embodiment, the above-mentioned spare channel in the subcode area is used as a recording area for erasability data.

Erasure prohibition data that prohibits erasure is written in the R channel in the subcode area.

On the optical disc 2, which is different from the recording medium, the subcode area released as the writing area of the user pit can be used as the writing area for erasability data, and it is possible to specify whether or not the recorded data can be erased. Since the erasability data written in the area can be canceled at any time, the manner in which the optical disc 2 is used can be easily changed as necessary.

Since the input circuit is connected and the erasability data written in the subcode area is used to prevent accidental erasure, this recording medium can be prevented from accidental erasure by mechanical measures, such as tape cassettes and floppy disks. For optical discs different from the above, the subcode area released as the writing area of the user pit can be used as the writing area for erasability data, and it is possible to specify whether the recorded data can be erased. Since the erasability data that has been created can be canceled at any time, excellent effects such as being able to easily change the manner in which the optical disc is used as needed are achieved.
