Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a visually handicapped person to enjoy teletext by not only displaying characters of teletext on a screen but also pronouncing them as a voice. CONSTITUTION:An encoded digital signal applied to a character signal generator 7 is applied to a code classifying device 10 also, and respective codes are classified to KANA (Japanese syllabary), numerals, and KANJI (Chinese character), and others, and KANA codes are applied to a code voice converter 13 as they are and the output is applied to a speaker 4. Numeral and KANJI codes are converted to KANA codes by KANJI-KANA converter 11 and they are applied to the code voice converter 13. Thus, since the received teletext signal is not only read as characters on a receiving tube but also heard as a voice, even a visually handicapped person can enjoy teletext.

2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, a multiplex character receiver extracts a multiplexed character signal during the vertical retrace period of a television signal and displays it as a character string on the screen. Figure 2 shows an overview of a text multiplex receiver. In the figure, 1 is the TV receiving circuit, 2 is the video/audio RG
3 is a picture tube, 4 is a speaker, 5 is a text signal decoder, and 6 is a teletext program selection remote control. Receive TV. The audio signal is output from the speaker 4. The character signal multiplexed during the vertical blanking period of the television signal is sent to the character signal decoder 5 and decoded to become a character signal.
The signal is sent to the video/audio RGB switching circuit 2, switched with the video signal at high speed, and displayed on the receiver tube 3. The teletext program selection remote control 6 sends a command to the character signal decoder 5 to designate a desired program numerically from among the teletext programs sent one after another.

FIG. 3 shows the functions of the character signal decoder 5 of FIG. 2 in blocks. In the figure, 7 is a character signal generator for converting the encoded digital signal A to 00 to convert it into a character digital signal (this is called decoding), 8 is a character signal generator for converting the encoded digital signal A into a character digital signal, An image display memory for displaying on the screen in synchronization with the TV synchronization signal, and 9 a D/A comparator for converting the character pattern data digital signal C into an analog signal for image display.
Vertical. The output of the D/A converter 9 is applied to the picture tube 3 for character display. In addition to this, the character signal decoder 5 includes a memory upstream of the character signal generator 7 for storing various program data that are sent one after another, but this memory is omitted because it is not relevant to the description of the present invention. The above block diagram and explanation were extracted from "AV System Technology" published by the Television Reception Improvement Committee.

Means for Solving the Problems In order to solve the above-mentioned conventional problems, the present invention adds the following device circuit to the conventional character multiplex receiver. The coded digital signal applied to the character signal generator of the character multiplex receiver is added to the character signal generator and also to a code classification device, which classifies each code into kana, numbers/kanji, and other types. , the kana code is directly added to the code-speech converter, the audio data corresponding to the kana code is connected to the code-speech converter, and its output is applied to the speaker. The audio data necessary for code-speech conversion is stored in an audio data ROM connected to the code-speech converter.
Read from. On the other hand, the numeric/kanji codes are converted into kana codes by the kanji/kana converter and then added to the code/speech converter. The phrase data necessary for Kanji-kana conversion is read out from the phrase ROM connected to the Kanji-kana conversion device and used.

Next, the operation will be explained. The code classification device classifies whether the incoming code is kana, numeric/kanji, or something else. The meaning of the classification is that it must be divided into those that can be added to the code-speech converter 13 as is, those that should be added after processing, and those that should not be added. For example, if it is kana, whether it is katakana or hiragana, by adding it as is, "aiueo" or "aiweo" will be pronounced rAJ, "1", r
It is pronounced as UJ, rEJ, "0" and no other pronunciation. However, if it is a kanji, the character ``文'' is ``
It is sometimes read as ``bun'', ``mo'', or ``mon''. These must be interpreted appropriately based on the context. The pronunciation of the numbers "1" and "2" remains the same, but by converting them into kana such as "ichi" and "two", the subsequent code-speech converter 13 only needs to convert between kana and speech. Further, since symbols such as "?" and "!" cannot be pronounced, they are not added to the code-speech converter 13. In the subsequent kanji-kana conversion device 11, the input kanji code ' column is the idiom RO.
If you haven't decided whether it fits into M12 or not, read "On-yomi".
If there is a kana conversion, the kana conversion stored in the idiom ROM 12 is performed. The phrase ROM 12 contains various phrases. For example, the items ``New'' and ``Newspaper'' contain ``Ata'' and ``Shinbun'', and ``Character'' and ``Newspaper'' are included.
``Literature'' contains data for ``moji'', ``bungaku'', and kana conversion. In the case of numbers, "3", "4"
” contains “san” and “yon”. The code converted into kana in this way is converted from kana code to speech by the code-speech conversion device 13. What is needed here is waveform data for producing actual sounds such as "Aiweo", rAJ, "1", and so on. Are these audio data F? It is stored in 0M14 and read out as needed. The output of the code/speech converter 13 is applied to the speaker 4 and becomes audio.

Effects of the Invention In this way, by not only displaying text on the screen but also pronouncing it audibly, visually impaired people can enjoy teletext broadcasting, and even people who are not visually impaired can enjoy it. This has the extremely beneficial effect of making it easier to understand the content by following the text while listening. Note that it is easy to apply the present invention to captains as well.
