【0136】

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an adaptive modulation method in the case where a base station and a single or a plurality of mobile stations communicate with each other, and in particular, an error correction coding rate used in the base station and the single or a plurality of mobile stations. The present invention also relates to an adaptive modulation method for adaptively changing a modulation scheme and a mobile communication system capable of realizing the adaptive modulation.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In a mobile communication system, a modulation method such as a phase modulation method (PSK) for changing the phase of a carrier wave or a quadrature amplitude modulation method (QAM: Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) for changing the amplitude and phase of a carrier wave is used. Both modulation schemes are modulated according to the amount of data that can be transmitted in one symbol. Phase modulation schemes include BPSK, QPSK, 8-phase PSK, and quadrature amplitude modulation schemes include 16QAM and 64QAM. …and so on. In these modulation schemes, the transmission speed basically increases in the order of BPSK, QPSK, 8-phase PSK, 16QAM, 64QAM,. Therefore, data can be transmitted in a shorter time if communication is performed with 64QAM.
[0003]
However, as the amount of data that can be transmitted with one symbol increases, the phase and amplitude position of different symbols become closer. That is, it becomes susceptible to multipath such as reflection, transmission, diffraction, etc., a reception error occurs, and the number of retransmission requests increases, resulting in a decrease in throughput. Therefore, in wireless communication, an error correction technique is indispensable in order to reduce retransmission requests. One of them is to use an error correction code for adding redundant information to transmission data. However, the error correction code can reduce the number of retransmissions, but adds redundant information, so that the amount of information that can actually be transmitted is reduced.
[0004]
In order to improve such problems, the base station or mobile station uses an adaptive modulation scheme that adaptively selects the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme based on the propagation path condition estimated from the received signal. ing.
[0005]
As a conventional technique using an adaptive modulation system, there is JP-A-8-274756. In JP-A-8-274756, an adaptive modulation scheme is applied only to the downlink, the mobile station estimates the state of the propagation path based on the signal transmitted from the base station, and the transmission rate is determined from the estimation result. An adaptive modulation scheme to determine is disclosed.
[0006]
FIG. 18 is a block diagram showing a configuration of a mobile station in a conventional mobile communication system. There are several types of methods for switching the error correction coding rate and modulation method, but here the mobile station transmits the channel quality information generated based on the received pilot signal back to the base station, By receiving the information, the base station selects an error correction coding rate and modulation scheme according to the channel quality.
[0007]
18 includes a
[0008]
When receiving the signal transmitted from the base station, the
[0009]
On the other hand, when received data is input,
[0010]
For transmission from the mobile station to the base station,
[0011]
Upon receiving the transmission signal from the mobile station, the base station performs reception processing and demodulation processing on the received signal, and then determines whether to change the demodulation method and error correction coding method based on the channel quality information Determine. The base station generates a control signal including a demodulation method and an error correction decoding method in the next frame based on the determination result, and transmits the control signal to the mobile station.
[0012]
As described above, in the conventional system, the base station notifies the mobile station of the transmission signal modulation scheme and the error correction coding scheme prior to the transmission data, so that the modulation scheme and error correction coding scheme at the time of transmission can be achieved. Even if it changes adaptively, a correct demodulated signal can be obtained. Thereby, for example, when the channel quality is good, the modulation scheme having a large modulation multi-level number and the coding rate of a small error correction are notified, so that the data transmission efficiency is improved. Also, for example, when the channel quality is poor, a modulation scheme with a small modulation multi-level number and a large error correction coding rate are notified, so that error resistance in data transfer is improved. That is, according to the channel quality information estimated in the mobile station, the base station selects a modulation scheme and error correction coding scheme that realizes the highest transmission rate that satisfies the required quality, so that high-speed data corresponding to the channel quality can be obtained. Realizes transmission.
[0013]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in a mobile communication system, it is considered that communication is performed in an environment where the fluctuation of the line quality state is severe, such as an environment that is strongly influenced by multipath due to surrounding features or a mobile station moving at high speed. It is done. In such a communication environment, it is necessary to measure the channel quality at high speed, and to quickly reflect the result in the selection of the modulation method and the error correction coding method. Therefore, there is a problem that the configuration of the mobile station and the base station is complicated.
[0014]
Also, channel quality measurement results cannot be quickly reflected in the selection of the modulation method and error correction coding method (the time when the channel quality information is estimated and the modulation method and error correction coding method are adaptively changed. If there is a large time difference between the selected time points), communication will be performed in an environment inappropriate for the selected modulation method and error correction coding method, leading to a decrease in transmission efficiency of the entire system. there were.
[0015]
The present invention has been made in view of the above. The channel quality measurement result estimated by the mobile station is quickly reflected in the selection of the modulation scheme and error correction coding scheme, and adaptively according to the state of the propagation path. An object of the present invention is to obtain a mobile communication system and an adaptive modulation method that change a modulation scheme and an error correction coding scheme.
[0016]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, a mobile communication system according to the present invention performs error correction and modulation on transmission data and transmits it to a partner station, and adaptively changes the error correction coding rate and modulation method. In the case of determining whether or not, the reference threshold value among the threshold values is used, and the error correction code rate and modulation method before the change are changed after the error correction code rate and modulation method are changed to the upper level. When deciding whether or not to make a change request to return to the level, use a threshold value that is lower than the reference threshold value, and change the error correction coding rate and modulation method to a lower level before changing the error. When determining whether or not to make a change request to return to the correction coding rate and modulation scheme level, use a threshold value that is higher than the reference threshold value, The base station is configured to determine whether to change the coding rate and modulation scheme of the error correction based on adaptive modulation scheme level information transmitted from the mobile station.

[0020]
The mobile communication system according to the next invention is the mobile communication system according to the above invention, wherein the adaptive modulation scheme management unit, when a predetermined time elapses after making a request to change the coding rate and modulation scheme of the error correction, After the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme are changed, a period for determining whether or not to make a change request to return to the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme before the change, and the error correction coding rate and After the modulation scheme is changed, the error correction coding rate before the change and the period for determining whether to make a change request for the error correction coding rate and the modulation scheme different from the modulation scheme are made equal It is characterized by.
[0021]
An adaptive modulation method according to the next invention is an adaptive modulation method capable of performing error correction and modulation on transmission data and transmitting the transmission data to a counterpart station and adaptively changing the coding rate and modulation method of the error correction. In the first step, the mobile station estimates the channel quality from the received data, and the mobile station determines whether to make a request to change the coding rate and modulation scheme of the error correction based on the channel quality And a third step in which the base station determines whether or not to change the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme based on adaptive modulation scheme level information from the mobile station. When determining whether or not to perform, use a reference threshold value among the threshold values, and after changing the error correction coding rate and modulation method to an upper level, the error correction coding rate and modulation method before the change When determining whether or not to make a change request to return to the previous level, a threshold value lower than the reference threshold value is used, and after changing the error correction coding rate and modulation method to a lower level, When deciding whether or not to make a change request to return to the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme level, decide whether or not to make the change request using a threshold value that is higher than the reference threshold value. It is characterized by that.
[0023]
In the adaptive modulation method according to the next invention, in the above invention, in the second step, the error is detected when a predetermined time has elapsed since the request for changing the coding rate and modulation method of the error correction. [0024]
The adaptive modulation method according to the next invention is: In an adaptive modulation method in which transmission data is subjected to error correction and modulation and transmitted to a counterpart station, and the coding rate and modulation method of the error correction can be adaptively changed, A first step of estimating quality; a second step of determining whether the mobile station makes a request to change the coding rate and modulation scheme of the error correction based on channel quality; A third step of determining whether to change the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme based on adaptive modulation scheme level information from the mobile station, and In the second step, when determining whether or not to make a request to change the coding rate and modulation scheme of the error correction, the error before the change is changed after the coding rate and modulation scheme of the error correction are changed. FIG. 17 shows an example of the relationship between fluctuations in SNR that is channel quality information and switching of MCS that is an adaptive modulation scheme level. 【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the mobile communication system according to the present invention, the channel quality estimation unit of the mobile station estimates the channel quality from the data transmitted from the base station, and the adaptive modulation scheme based on the estimation result The management unit determines whether to make a request to change the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme. The adaptive modulation scheme management unit notifies the base station of the determination as adaptive modulation scheme level information. As a result, the base station determines whether or not to change the error correction coding rate and the modulation scheme at the next frame timing based on the adaptive modulation scheme level information, and thus adapted to the channel quality. An error correction coding rate and modulation scheme can be selected.
[0130]
Also, When determining whether or not to make a request for changing the error correction coding rate and modulation method, the adaptive modulation method management unit raises the error correction coding rate and modulation method to the upper level, When determining whether to make a change request for returning to the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme, a threshold value lower than the reference threshold value is used. When determining whether or not to make a change request for returning to the error correction coding rate and modulation method before the change after lowering the error correction coding rate and modulation method to a lower level, Since a threshold that is higher than a certain level is used, it is possible to prevent frequent switching of the adaptive modulation system level even in an environment where the fluctuation of the line quality state is severe, and a burden on resource management of the mobile communication system. Can be reduced.
[0131]
According to the mobile communication system of the next invention, the adaptive modulation scheme management unit determines whether or not to make a request to change the coding rate of the error correction and the modulation scheme when a predetermined time has elapsed, and the error correction. The same reference threshold is used when determining whether or not to make a request to return to the coding rate and modulation method of the error correction before the change after changing the coding rate and the modulation method. Therefore, in an environment where the fluctuation of the line quality state is severe, frequent switching of the adaptive modulation scheme level is suppressed, the burden on the resource management of the mobile communication system is reduced, and the line quality state is relatively stable. In such an environment, an appropriate adaptive modulation scheme level can be switched according to the line quality state.
[0132]
According to the mobile communication system of the next invention, the adaptive modulation scheme management unit changes the error correction coding rate and the modulation scheme, and then requests the change request to return to the error correction coding rate and the modulation scheme before the change. Whether to make a request to change to an error correction coding rate and modulation scheme different from the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme before the change. Since it is performed for each communication, it is possible to suppress frequent switching of the adaptive modulation scheme level in an environment where the fluctuation of the line quality state is severe, and reduce the burden on resource management of the mobile communication system. Can do.
[0133]
According to the mobile communication system of the next invention, the adaptive modulation scheme management unit encodes the error correction coding when a predetermined time has elapsed since the error correction coding rate and the modulation scheme change request. After the rate and the modulation scheme are changed, the error correction coding rate and the period for determining whether to make a change request to return to the modulation scheme, and the error correction coding rate and the modulation scheme are changed. After that, the period for deciding whether or not to make a change request to the error correction coding rate and modulation method different from the error correction coding rate and modulation method before the change is made equal. In an environment where the quality state fluctuates drastically, frequent switching of the adaptive modulation scheme level is suppressed, the burden on the resource management of the mobile communication system is reduced, and the line quality is relatively high. State is in the environment is stable, it is possible to switch the appropriate adaptive modulation scheme level corresponding to the channel quality condition.
[0134]
According to the adaptive modulation method of the next invention, the mobile station estimates the channel quality from the data transmitted from the base station, and based on the channel quality information which is the estimation result, the error correction coding rate and the modulation scheme To determine whether to make a change request, and notifies the base station of the determination result as an adaptive modulation scheme level. Thus, the base station determines whether or not to change the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme at the next frame timing based on the adaptive modulation scheme level information transmitted from the mobile station. Therefore, it is possible to select an error correction coding rate and modulation scheme adapted to the channel quality.
[0135]
Also, When the mobile station decides whether or not to make a request to change the error correction coding rate and modulation method, raise the error correction coding rate and modulation method to the upper level and then correct the error before the change. When determining whether or not to make a change request for returning to the coding rate and the modulation scheme, a threshold value lower than the reference threshold value is used.
[0136]
According to the adaptive modulation method of the next invention, when the mobile station determines whether or not to make a request to change the error correction coding rate and modulation method after a predetermined time has passed, and the error correction coding After changing the rate and modulation method, the same reference threshold is used when determining whether to make a request to return to the error correction coding rate and modulation method before the change. In an environment where the quality state fluctuates drastically, frequent switching of the adaptive modulation scheme level is suppressed, the burden on resource management of the mobile communication system is reduced, and the line quality state is relatively stable. In the environment, it is possible to switch the appropriate adaptive modulation scheme level according to the line quality state.
[0137]
According to the adaptive modulation method of the next invention, whether the mobile station makes a change request to return to the error correction code rate and modulation method before the change after the error correction code rate and modulation method are changed. The decision whether or not to make a request to change to the error correction coding rate and modulation method different from the error correction coding rate and modulation method before the change is made for each communication. Therefore, it is possible to suppress frequent switching of the adaptive modulation scheme level in an environment where the fluctuation of the line quality state is severe, and to reduce the burden on resource management of the mobile communication system.
[0138]
According to the adaptive modulation method of the next invention, when a predetermined time has elapsed since the mobile station requested to change the error correction coding rate and modulation method, the error correction coding rate and modulation After the scheme is changed, the period for determining whether to make a change request to return to the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme before the change, and after the error correction coding rate and modulation scheme are changed, Since the error correction coding rate and the modulation scheme different from the error correction coding rate and the modulation scheme before the change are made equal to the period for determining whether or not to make a change request, the line quality state In environments with extreme fluctuations, frequent switching of adaptive modulation scheme levels is suppressed, reducing the burden on resource management of mobile communication systems, etc., and the line quality state is relatively stable. In environment, you can switch the appropriate adaptive modulation scheme level corresponding to the channel quality condition.
