(3)EEPROM(Electrically Erasable PROM)
【0009】
これに対し、EEPROM(3)は、書込みに要する時間が数ms〜数10ms(電源電圧の低下に伴って書込みに必要な高電圧が低下すると長くなる。)

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a life management apparatus for an image forming apparatus, and more particularly to an electronic counter for managing the life of a unit such as a photosensitive unit as a replacement part in an image forming apparatus such as an electrophotographic printer or an electrophotographic apparatus. is there.
[0002]
[Prior art]
For example, a photoconductor unit, a Y (yellow) developing unit, an M (magenta) developing unit, a C (cyan) developing unit, a K (black) developing unit, an intermediate transfer unit, and a fixing unit, which are replacement parts of a color electrophotographic printer It is required to be able to display the remaining life of the unit.
[0003]
As a means for counting how old such a unit is (used), a mechanical counter has been used before, but recently, an electronic counter using a microcomputer is often used.
[0004]
The electronic counter is advantageous in that it is cheaper than a mechanical counter, and since the count value is electronic data from the beginning, it is easy to exchange data with other devices.
[0005]
In an electronic counter using a microcomputer, a non-volatile memory in which data is not lost even when the power is turned off is used as a storage means. Non-volatile memory includes
(1) SRAM backed up by a battery
(2) Ferroelectric memory
(3) EEPROM (Electrically Erasable PROM)
Etc.
[0006]
Of these, the SRAM (1) and the ferroelectric memory (2) backed up by the battery are expensive, while the EEPROM (3) is inexpensive and the main body of the electrophotographic printer stores various parameters. Therefore, since it is generally mounted from the beginning, using it as an electronic counter is the best in terms of cost.
[0007]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
When a power failure suddenly occurs in an image forming device such as an electrophotographic printer, etc., when a mechanical counter is used to manage the life of each unit, the power failure becomes a problem. There is no.
[0008]
However, when an electronic counter is used for life management of each unit, there is a possibility that correct data may be lost if power failure countermeasures are not taken, or if a power failure occurs during memory writing. In the SRAM (1) and the ferroelectric memory (2) backed up by the battery described above, since the time required for writing is 1 μs or less, the writing is terminated before the voltage drops by detecting the drop in the power supply voltage. That is not so difficult.
[0009]
On the other hand, the EEPROM (3) takes a long time of several milliseconds to several tens of milliseconds (longer when the high voltage required for writing decreases as the power supply voltage decreases). Must be maintained at a voltage at which normal writing can be performed, which increases the cost of the power supply.
[0010]
Here, the EEPROM will be briefly described. As shown in FIG. 17, the EEPROM memory cell uses a MNOS (Metal Nitride Oxide Semiconductor) type memory cell, which has a double structure of an oxide film and a nitride film, and the oxide film and the nitride film. There is a trap level that captures electrons near the interface. The writing of 0 and 1 is performed by exchanging electrons between the substrate and the trap level by a tunnel phenomenon. This is schematically shown in FIG. FIG. 18A shows a state when 0 is written. As shown in the upper diagram of FIG. 18A, when a memory source is set to 0 V and a positive voltage is applied to the memory gate, electrons are caused by a tunnel phenomenon. From the substrate to the oxide film (SiO 2 ) And nitride film (Si Three N Four ) And is trapped at a trap level near the interface. The bottom of FIG. 18A shows the energy barrier against electrons and the movement of electrons at this time. FIG. 18B shows a state when 1 is written. As shown in the upper diagram of FIG. 18B, when the memory gate is set to 0 V and a positive voltage is applied to the memory source, a tunnel phenomenon occurs. As a result, electrons move from the interface between the oxide film and the nitride film to the substrate, and the trap level becomes empty. The bottom of FIG. 18B shows the energy barrier against electrons and the movement of electrons at this time.
[0011]
Thus, in the case of an EEPROM, an insulator (oxide film: SiO 2 ) Since writing is performed by moving electrons through, the time required for writing is long as described above (in the case of RAM, electrons move through conductors or semiconductors, so the writing time is relatively short. .)
[0012]
FIG. 5 is a timing chart of an EEPROM write cycle called serial EEPROM, which will be described later. For data writing, the chip select signal CS is set to H for the data transfer time, and the input signal DI is input in synchronization with the clock signal CLK. The input data DI is composed of commands C7 to C0, addresses A7 to A0, and data D15 to D0. After such data transfer, memory writing is performed in the EEPROM. This memory write time requires several ms to several tens of ms as described above.
[0013]
If a power failure occurs during such a relatively long memory write period, there is a possibility that correct data may be lost, and as it is, the electronic counter for life management of each unit becomes unreliable. End up.
[0014]
An object of the present invention is to use an electrically writable / erasable non-volatile memory such as an EEPROM for life management of a unit such as a photoreceptor unit which is a replacement part of an image forming apparatus such as an electrophotographic printer or an electrophotographic apparatus. A life management device for an image forming apparatus that can reliably restore correct data even if the data stored in the memory is destroyed or inaccurately written due to a power failure such as a power failure. Is to provide.
[0015]
The lifetime management device for an image forming apparatus according to the present invention that achieves the above object forms an electrostatic latent image by exposing on an electrostatic latent image carrier, develops the formed electrostatic latent image into a toner image, An image forming apparatus that forms an image by transferring a developed toner image onto a sheet member and fixing the transferred toner image, wherein the replacement unit includes at least one replacement unit. An electrically rewritable non-volatile memory for storing information representing the degree of use of the battery, and three areas for storing information representing the degree of use of the replacement unit are provided in the non-volatile memory. Write means for serially writing the same information indicating the degree of use of the replacement unit in three areas in sequence, and a repair processing means for repairing the same if the information stored in the three areas is not the same It is to characterized in that it comprises a.
[0016]
In this case, it is desirable that the repair processing means is operated when the apparatus main body is turned on.
[0017]
Further, it is desirable that the information indicating the use degree of the replacement unit is a value proportional to the number of image formations involving the replacement unit.
[0018]
The replacement unit preferably includes at least one of a developing unit, a photosensitive unit, an intermediate transfer unit, and a fixing unit.
[0019]
Further, it is desirable that the nonvolatile memory is an EEPROM.
Further, the nonvolatile memory may be provided in the image forming apparatus main body or in the exchange unit.
[0020]

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
Embodiments of a life management apparatus for an image forming apparatus according to the present invention will be described below with reference to the drawings.
First, an outline of an example of an image forming apparatus to which the life management apparatus of the present invention is applied will be described with reference to FIG.
[0022]
This image forming apparatus is a color electrophotographic printer capable of forming a full-color image using a developing device using toner of four colors of yellow (Y), cyan (C), magenta (M), and black (K). .

[0057]
In this way, to repair the incompleteness of a set of data that is partially destroyed due to a power failure or is not rewritten while writing the same data in three places, Data recovery processing may be performed with a simple algorithm.
[0058]
This algorithm is described in C language, and its meaning will be clarified from the flowchart below. However, in any case, if the data of three locations for each unit is restored according to this algorithm, the number of the three locations is n. It will be repaired.
[0059]
However, a power failure may occur during the data repair process. However, even if a power failure occurs during these processes A to F, the data stored in the three locations will be in any of the above-mentioned conditions (4) to (6) as shown in the following table. Since it can be restored by the data restoration process in the next cycle after the restoration, there is no problem.

Thereafter, in step STD, it is confirmed that the cover of the printer main body is closed. When it is determined that the cover of the printer main body is not closed, it is confirmed again in step STF that the cover of the printer main body is closed, and the confirmation work is performed until it is confirmed that the cover is closed. Continue.
[0068]
In step STD and step STF, when it is confirmed that the cover of the printer main body is closed and the printer main body is ready for printing operation, in step STE, the life data update described in detail later is continued.
[0069]
The life data repair process STB of FIG. 7 is performed according to the flowchart of FIG. Explaining this process, in step ST1, the second data (second written data) x [0] [1] in the lifetime data at three locations of the main body is changed to the first data (first It is determined whether the written data is equal to x [0] [0]. If they are equal, that is, in the case of (1), (2), (4) in the combination of the data, in step ST2, the third data (the last written data) x [ It is determined whether or not [0] [2] is equal to the second data x [0] [1]. In the case of {circle around (1)} in the combination of the data determined to be equal, since the life data at the three locations of the main body are all equal, no repair processing is necessary, so the repair processing of the life data of the main body ends. Proceed to the repair process of the life data of the next Y developing unit 10Y. In the case of {circle over (2)} and {circle around (4)} in the combination of the data determined not equal in step ST2, in step ST3, the second data in the third data x [0] [2]. The process of writing the data x [0] [1], that is, the process A is performed, and the repair process of the life data of the main body is completed. In the case of {circle over (3)}, {circle over (5)}, {circle around (6)} in the combination of the data determined not equal in step ST1, the third data x [0] in step ST4 is the same as step ST2. It is determined whether [2] is equal to the second data x [0] [1]. In the case of (3) and (6) in the combination of the data determined to be equal, in step ST5, first, the data obtained by adding 1 to the second data x [0] [1] is set to 1. The process of writing to the first data x [0] [0] (the process B) and the rewritten first data x [0] [0] to the second x [0] [1] And a process (process D) for writing the rewritten second data x [0] [1] into the third x [0] [2]. End the life data repair process. In the case of {circle over (5)} in the combination of the data determined not equal in step ST4, the first data x [0] [0] is changed to the second x [0] [0] in step ST6. 1] (Processing E), and a process of writing the rewritten second data x [0] [1] into the third x [0] [2] (Processing F). Then, the repair process of the life data of the main body is finished.
[0070]
After the life data x [0] [0], x [0] [1], x [0] [2] repair processing at the three locations of the main body is completed, in the next steps ST7 to ST12, the Y developing unit 10Y The process proceeds to the repair process of the life data x [1] [0], x [1] [1], x [1] [2] at the three locations. The process is exactly the same as the repair process of the lifetime data of the main body, and steps ST7 to ST12 correspond to steps ST1 to ST6, respectively.

[0076]
Next, in step ST5, it is determined whether or not the yellow image toner is being developed in the Y developing unit 10Y. If it is determined that Y development is in progress, 1 is added to the count value of the counter count1 for the life data of the Y development unit 10Y in step ST6. Then, in step ST7, it is determined whether or not the value of the counter count1 has become 64. If it is determined that the value has become 64, in step ST8, the value of the counter count1 is first reset to 0, and then the Y developing unit 10Y. 1 is added to the count value of the first x [1] [0] of the lifetime data, and then 1 is added to the count value of the second x [1] [1], and finally the third x [1] Add 1 to the count value of [2]. If it is not determined in step ST5 that Y development is being performed, or if it is not determined in step ST7 that it has become 64, the processing in step ST8 is not performed.

[0079]
Next, similarly, in step ST17, it is determined whether or not the black image toner is being developed in the K developing unit 10K. If it is determined that K development is in progress, 1 is added to the count value of the counter count4 for the life data of the K development unit 10K in step ST18. In step ST19, it is determined whether or not the value of the counter count4 has become 64. If it is determined that the value has reached 64, in step ST20, the value of the counter count4 is first reset to 0, and then the K developing unit 10K. 1 is added to the count value of the first x [4] [0] of the lifetime data, and then 1 is added to the count value of the second x [4] [1], and finally the third x [4] Add 1 to the count value of [2]. If it is not determined in step ST17 that K development is in progress, or if it is not determined in step ST19 that it has become 64, the processing in step ST20 is not performed.
