Abstract
Description

[Industrial applications]
The present invention relates to an apparatus for determining a characteristic of an output signal generated by a signal processing circuit with respect to a reference signal, the apparatus comprising a first series circuit having a first input for receiving the output signal, a reference signal. And a coupling circuit connected as a first output of the first series circuit and a second output of the second series circuit for generating a characteristic signal at its output. Wherein the first series circuit comprises:
A first signal processing arrangement connected to a first input of the first series circuit for generating a first signal parameter as a function of time and frequency; and
A first compression array connected to the first signal processing array for compressing the first signal parameter to generate a first compressed signal parameter;
The second series circuit is
A second compression arrangement connected to the second input for generating a second pressure signal parameter; and
The coupling circuit
A differential array connected to the two compression arrays and for determining a differential signal based on the compressed signal parameters;
An integration array connected to the differentiation array for integrating the differentiation signal with respect to frequency; and
A time-average array connected to the integration array for integrating the integrated differential signal with respect to time;
Such a device is described in the first reference, Journal of the Society of Acoustical Engineering, Vol. 40, No. 12, December 1992, pp. 963-978, John G. Behrens, Jan. A. "Perceptual audio property measurement based on sound representation", particularly in FIG. The device determines, with respect to the reference signal, the characteristics of the output signal generated by a signal processing circuit, for example a coder / decoder (codec). The reference signal is, for example, an input signal appearing in a signal processing circuit, but also includes a possibility of using an ideal output signal calculated in advance as a reference signal. The first signal parameter is generated by the first signal processing arrangement as a function of time and frequency in response to the output signal and then compressed by the first compression arrangement. Here, the intermediate operation of the first signal parameter should not be excluded at all. The second signal parameter is compressed by a second compression array in response to the reference signal. Again, further manipulation of the second signal parameter should not be ruled out. For each of these compressed signal parameters, after the differential signal is determined by the differential array, the differential signal is integrated with respect to frequency by the integration array, and then the integrated signal is integrated by the time-average array with respect to time. A signal is generated.
Such a device has, inter alia, the disadvantage that the objective characteristic signal evaluated by the device and the subjective characteristic signal evaluated by the observer have little correlation.
(Summary of the present invention)
It is, inter alia, an object of the present invention to provide a device of the above type in which the objective characteristic signal and the subjective characteristic signal have a better correlation.
For this reason, the device of the present invention further comprises a coupling circuit,
A comparison array for comparing one and the other of two signals which are output signals of the integration array and the time average array, and
It is characterized in that a selection array for selecting a characteristic signal to be generated depending on the comparison result is provided.
As a result of having the device provided with a comparison sequence and a selection sequence, more appropriate signals are distinguished from fewer signals. The comparison and selection result in a good correlation between the objective characteristic signal evaluated by the device and the subjective characteristic signal evaluated by the observer.
In particular, the present invention is a consequence of the fact that the lack of correlation between the objective characteristic signal and the subjective characteristic signal has been found to be more problematic with observer distortion than with other distortions. It is based on the insight that there is one, and that the (time interval) signal in the coupling circuit is more appropriate than the other (time interval) signal.
Thus, the problem of uncorrelation is solved by distinguishing more appropriate signals from less appropriate signals.
In a first embodiment of the device of the present invention, a comparison array and a selection array are provided between the integration array and the time-average array to compare the output signal of the integration array with another signal having a predetermined value at each time interval. When the output signal is larger than the other signals, the output signal is supplied to the time-average array, and when the output signal is smaller than the other signals, the output signal is not supplied to the time-average array. Have.
As a result of providing the comparison array and the selection array as described above, the integrated differential signal can be compared with another signal having a predetermined value at each time interval. If the integrated differential signal is larger than the other signals, the integrated differential signal is supplied to the time-averaged array, and if the integrated differential signal is not provided, the integrated differential signal having a relatively high value is supplied. More appropriateness is emphasized.
Instead of supplying or not supplying a signal as described above, it is also possible to multiply the integrated differentiated signal by a larger or smaller number, for example, to emphasize the further suitability of a signal.
A second embodiment of the device of the invention is for generating a first characteristic signal at a first output connected to the left channel of the signal processing circuit and for generating a second characteristic signal at a second output connected to the right channel. And a comparison array and a selection array are coupled to first and second outputs of the time average array to compare the first and second characteristic signals and select a characteristic signal having a maximum value. It is characterized by.
By providing the comparison array and the selection array in series with the output of the time-average array, the characteristic signals are compared and the characteristic signal having the maximum value is selected. To this end, the signal processing circuit has left and right channels, and two characteristic signals must determine which goes to the left channel and which goes to the right channel. This is done by determining the characteristics of the complete left output signal and then determining the characteristics of the complete right output signal, or by determining the characteristics of the left and right output signals at each time interval.
A third embodiment of the device according to the invention is arranged such that if the second characteristic signal is greater than the sum of the first characteristic signal and a signal having a predetermined value, the second characteristic signal is selected; It has the feature that a signal is selected.
If the characteristic signal connected to the right channel is larger than the sum of the characteristic signal connected to the left channel and a signal having a predetermined value, the characteristic signal connected to the right channel is selected, and if smaller, the signal is connected to the left channel. The fact that the characteristic signal is selected underlines the further suitability of the left output signal of the signal processing circuit with respect to the right output signal.
A fourth embodiment of the device according to the invention is characterized in that the selection arrangement depends at least on the correlation of the selected characteristic signal with the integrated differential signal connected to the left channel and the integrated differential signal connected to the right channel. It is characterized by having a multiplication array for multiplying by a signal having a value.
By providing the multiplication array in the selection array in this way, a very good correlation is obtained between the objective characteristic signal evaluated by the device and the subjective characteristic signal evaluated by the observer.
Although the first embodiment and the second to fourth embodiments can be considered as independent aspects, the best correlation is obtained when the first to fourth embodiments are used together.
A fifth embodiment of the device according to the invention is characterized in that a second series circuit is further connected to the second input and for generating a second signal parameter as a function of both time and frequency, the second signal processing arrangement comprising: A second compression array connected to the two-signal processing array for compressing the second signal parameter.
If the second serial circuit further comprises a second signal processing arrangement, the second signal parameters occur as a function of time and frequency. In this case, the input signal appearing in a signal processing circuit, for example a coder / decoder, is used as a reference signal, whereas if the second signal processing arrangement is not used, the pre-calculated ideal output signal is Used as a reference signal.
A sixth embodiment of the device according to the invention is characterized in that the signal processing arrangement comprises:
A multiplication array for multiplying a signal supplied to the input by a window function in a time domain; and
A transformation array connected to the multiplication array for transforming a signal coming from the multiplication array into a frequency domain;
The method is characterized in that, after determining the absolute value, the deformation array generates signal parameters as a function of time and frequency.
Here, as a result of using the multiplication array and the modified array, the first and second signal processing arrays generate signal parameters as a function of time and frequency, and the modified array also determines, for example, absolute values.
A seventh embodiment of the device according to the invention is characterized in that the signal processing arrangement comprises:
With a subband filter array to filter the signal supplied to its input,
The subband filter arrangement is characterized in that after determining the absolute values, the signal parameters are generated as a function of time and frequency.
Here, for example, signal parameters are generated by the first and second signal processing arrangements as a function of time and frequency as a result of using a subband filter arrangement which also determines the absolute value.
According to an eighth embodiment of the device of the present invention, the signal processing arrangement further comprises a conversion for converting signal parameters represented by the time spectrum and the frequency spectrum into signal parameters represented by the time spectrum and the Bark spectrum. It is characterized by having an array.
Here, the signal array generated by the first and second signal processing arrays and represented by the time spectrum and the frequency spectrum is converted into the signal parameter represented by the time spectrum and the bark spectrum by the conversion array.
The invention further relates to a method for determining a characteristic of an output signal generated by a signal processing circuit with respect to a reference signal, the method comprising:
Generating a first signal parameter as a function of time and frequency in response to the output signal; compressing the first signal parameter to generate a first compressed signal parameter;
Generating a second compressed signal parameter in response to the reference signal;
Determining a derivative signal based on the compressed signal parameters; and
Generating a characteristic signal by integrating the differential signal with respect to frequency and time.
In the method of the present invention, the step of generating the characteristic signal includes:
Comparing one of the two signals, which is a derivative signal integrated with respect to frequency and time with respect to each other, to the other signal; and
Selecting a characteristic signal to be generated depending on the result of the comparison.
A first embodiment of the method according to the invention is characterized in that the sub-step of comparison compares, at each time interval, the differentiated signal integrated with respect to frequency with another signal having a predetermined value, and the integrated differentiated signal is compared with another signal having a predetermined value. When the signal is larger than the signal, the integrated differential signal is integrated with respect to time, and when the signal is smaller, the integrated signal is not integrated.
A second embodiment of the method according to the invention is characterized in that the step of generating the characteristic signal further comprises the sub-step of generating a first characteristic signal connected to the left channel and a second characteristic signal connected to the right channel of the signal processing circuit. Wherein the sub-step of comparing comprises comparing the first characteristic signal with the second characteristic signal, and the sub-step of selecting comprises selecting the characteristic signal having the maximum value.
A third embodiment of the method according to the invention is characterized in that if the second characteristic signal is greater than the sum of the first characteristic signal and a signal having a predetermined value, the second characteristic signal is selected; It has the characteristic that the characteristic signal is selected.
A fourth embodiment of the method according to the invention is characterized in that the selected characteristic signal is the correlation between the differentiated signal connected to the left channel and integrated over frequency and the differentiated signal connected to the right channel and integrated over frequency. It is characterized by being multiplied with a signal having at least a dependent value.
A fifth embodiment of the method of the present invention is that the step of generating a second compressed signal parameter in response to the reference signal comprises:
Generating a second signal parameter in response to the reference signal as a function of both time and frequency; and
The method comprises the sub-step of compressing the second signal parameter.

The best correlation is obtained by using all possibilities simultaneously.
The broadest meaning is retained for the signal processing circuits of the connection where all types of audio video devices are conceivable. Thus, the signal processing circuit can be a codec, in which case the input signal is the reference signal whose characteristics of the output signal are determined. The signal processing circuit can also be a balancing device, in which case the characteristics of the output signal are determined with respect to a reference signal calculated on the basis of an already existing ideal balancing device. The signal processing circuit can also be a speaker, in which case the output signal is used as a reference signal, and the characteristics of the sound output signal are determined therefor. Further, the signal processing circuit may be a speaker computer model, in which case the speaker is designed based on the value set therein, a low volume output signal is provided as a reference signal, and a high volume output signal is output from the signal processing circuit. It is supplied as a signal.
In the case of a calculated reference signal, the second signal processing arrangement of the second serial circuit may be omitted as a result of the actions taken by the second signal processing arrangement being discounted in the calculation of the reference signal.
