脊柱管狭窄症に対する手術において図1で示すように背側Dからのアプローチで骨Bの裏面つまり腹側Vに固着している黄色靭帯Lを剥がして摘出する操作が必要であるが,その黄色靭帯Lの周囲には神経Nも存在するため,神経Nを損傷しないように操作する必要もある.この操作に従来から屈曲鋭匙2がよく用いられている.図2で示すように鋭匙とは持ち手や柄を含むシャフト12があり,その先に匙部11があり,匙部11の辺縁は鋭刃となっている.鋭刃13は匙部11辺縁のほぼ全周性にある(図5左図,図6左図).図2,図3はシャフト12と匙部11とが真っ直ぐな直鋭匙1である.従来より匙部21とシャフト22との間が屈曲した屈曲鋭匙2(図1,図4右図)は既に存在するが,みな屈曲方向が匙口方向Mである.匙口方向とは匙口凹面が向いている方向,つまり匙形の辺縁輪を包含する平面を想定するとその平面の垂線方向である.
