Abstract

Description
上述のように、ネットワーク通信に対して単一の最大タイムアウト(TO)及び再試行(RT)値を用いる技術は、全てのネットワーク装置に対して並行して要求を行うことによって、通信要求が既に最適化されているものと仮定するものであり、このことは1つのプロセス又はスレッドが全ての装置に要求を送信する一方で別のプロセス又はスレッドが応答を待つことを意味するので、望ましくない。しかしながら、このことはまた、最も遅い装置についての応答時間が全てのMFDに影響を及ぼすことも意味する。従って、各々の要求を個別に維持することで、管理ツールを実行している管理システム上に容認できない量のコンピュータ・リソースが必要とされる。これは、処理時間及びネットワーク性能を著しく遅くすることがある。
フローチャート10は以下のステップを含む。ステップ12において、ユーザによってアプリケーションタスクが実行される。例えば、200個のOIDオブジェクトについて検索が行われる。ステップ14において、MFDは自動的にポーリングされる。例えば、ネットワーク上の5000個のMFDの全てが、複数のMFDの各々によってサービス要求が行われたかどうかにかかわらず、検索される。ステップ16において、複数のMFDの各々に対して、必要とされる数のタイムアウト及び再試行が実行される。例えば、タイムアウトは5秒に設定することができ、再試行の数はMFD当たり再試行3回に設定することができる。ステップ18において、平均時間が計算される。例えば、この例において、平均時間はこのシナリオの下では3000秒である。プロセスはその後、終了する。
最悪の場合のシナリオは、各オブジェクト識別子が別個の通信要求の中にあり、各々が5秒のタイムアウト及び3回の再試行を必要とする状況で、5000個のネットワークMFD上で200個のOIDオブジェクトの状態ポーリングを行うことである。

図2の技術は、1つの通信要求を行った後に装置を動的にグループ化することを伴う。グループ化の基準は、単純にMFDが応答したかどうかである。一方のグループは、最大タイムアウト及び再試行を超過し、応答しなかったMFDから構成される。もう一方のグループは、通信要求に応答したあらゆるMFDから構成される。

図3に説明される技術は、全ての装置の通信状態を持続し、これを、いずれかのネットワーク通信要求を行う前に装置をグループ化するために用いることを伴う。この基準は両方のグループを並行して稼働させることを可能にするので、各グループはもう一方に影響を及ぼさない。少数のグループを並行して稼働するために必要とされるリソースは過剰なものではない。

- 複数の多機能装置(MFD)をグループ化するのに適した印刷システムであって、
前記複数のMFDに選択的にポーリングすることによって該複数のMFDから収集される情報を格納するためのストレージ・ステーションを含み、
前記情報は選択的に処理され、前記複数のMFDに関する静的性能データ及び動的性能データに基づいて、1つ又はそれ以上のグループにされること
を特徴とするシステム。 - 前記静的性能データは、前記複数のMFDが1つ又はそれ以上のプロトコルによって機能する能力に基づくことを特徴とする、請求項1に記載のシステム。
- 複数の多機能装置(MFD)をグループ化するのに適した方法であって、
前記複数のMFDに選択的にポーリングし、
前記選択的にポーリングされた複数のMFDから情報を受信し、
前記選択的にポーリングされた複数のMFDから収集された前記情報を格納し、
