Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an improved process for producing aromatic carboxylic imides, especially trimellitic imides and pyromellitic imides.
Up to now, trimellitic imide and pyromellitic imide derivatives have been synthesized once using acid anhydride and amines as starting materials and amic acid as an intermediate product as shown in the following reaction formula, Is carried out by a method of cyclization by removing water by-produced by azeotropy in a multi-stage, long-time and energy-consuming method (Non-Patent Document 1, Non-Patent Document 2).
On the other hand, in recent years, it has been reported that microwaves were effective in the synthesis of aromatic carboxylic acid imides such as maleimide and phthalimide, and has attracted attention.
For example, the synthesis of the amino acid N-phthalimide is considered to be completed in several minutes in DMF by microwave irradiation (Non-patent Document 3).
Since the synthesis of the amino acid N-phthalimide by the conventional heating method using an oil bath required a reaction time of about 1 hour in toluene, the reaction time was dramatically shortened in this reaction under microwave irradiation. It can be said that
Further, in Non-Patent Document 4, maleimide and phthalimide have been successfully synthesized in a very short time under solvent-free and catalyst-free conditions using a household microwave oven.
However, among the imides, trimellitic imide and pyromellitic imide which are important as raw materials for functional polymers are different from the maleimide and phthalimide described above, and this is performed using the microwave technique described in Reference 3-5. Even if it tries to synthesize by imidation reaction of trimellitic acid or pyromellitic acid and amines, the reaction does not proceed, and even if the reaction occurs, only the corresponding amic acid can be obtained, and the desired imide can be obtained. It was extremely difficult to synthesize in one step. (Non-patent document 5).
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described conventional technology, and provides a method for safely and efficiently producing an aromatic carboxylic imide, particularly trimellitic imide or pyromellitic imide in a short time. The purpose is to do.
As a result of intensive investigations to solve the conventional problems relating to the above-described methods for producing aromatic carboxylic imides, particularly trimellitic imides and pyromellitic imides, the present inventors have obtained an aromatic carboxylic acid anhydride and an amino acid. When the reaction with the group-containing compound is carried out in the presence of trialkylamine under microwave irradiation, the imidization reaction is completed in one step, and the desired imide compound is obtained, and the aminocarboxylic acid used is optically active. In the case of an isomer, it was found that racemization during the imidation reaction was highly suppressed, and an imide compound having optical activity retained was obtained.
