Description

【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a computer system that executes a print job using a spooler and outputs the print job to a printer.
[0002]
[Prior art]
As a conventional technique, a printer failure (paper jam or paper exhaustion) is detected and recovered by notifying a user of the failure, and automatic recovery is performed for a printer having no failure by two or more systems. There is an alternative that prints on behalf of another.

[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the conventional function, there is a recovery means for a printer failure. However, when a failure occurs in the spooler, there is no means for detecting and recovering the failure, and a problem occurs in that the print job is stagnated.
[0005]
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to monitor the execution status of a print job over time and also monitor the operation status of a spooler to detect a failure of the spooler, and in that case, another one which is kept waiting in the same system. An object of the present invention is to restart printing by a spooler and prevent a stagnation of a print job.
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the present invention obtains an execution start time and a print job execution status of a spooled print job in a computer system that transmits spooled print job data to a printer and performs printing.
[0007]
The status of the spooled print job is monitored based on the execution start time of the print job, and the time during which the print job is not stopped but stays is calculated.
[0008]
Further, when the time for determining that the state of the spooler is abnormal has elapsed, the print control is switched from the spooler (primary) to the standby spooler (secondary).
[0009]
Further, the operation state of the spooler is monitored, and when the function is stopped, the print control is switched from the spooler (primary) to the standby spooler (secondary).
[0010]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION

FIG. 1 is a diagram showing a main part of an automatic printing recovery apparatus applied to the present invention. The automatic print recovery apparatus stores, in a computer, print job data from a dedicated port 1, a spooler 2 which stands by, a spooler 3 which spools print job data passed from the spooler 2, and a print job transmitted from the spooler 3 to the printer 4. The job monitoring unit 5 monitors the data execution status, monitors whether the process of the spooler 3 is operating normally, and determines whether an error has occurred. Job management means 6 which manages the
[0011]
The operation of the automatic print recovery apparatus will be described with reference to FIG. First, print job data is passed to the spooler 202 via the dedicated port 201. Then, the print job data is stored in the spooler 202. (203) The print job data sent from the spooler 202 is spooled by the spooler 204, and then sent to the printer for printing. (205)
At the start of execution of the print job, the management information of the print job data is acquired by the job management unit 206 and registered in the management table 207. (208) Thereafter, monitoring is continued by the job monitoring unit 209 until the print job is completed. (210)
If the monitoring time exceeds a certain value, or if it is detected that the process of the spooler 204 is not operating normally, it is determined that an abnormality has occurred in the spooler 204 (211), and print control is sent to the spooler 202. Move. (212)
The job to be executed is determined from the management table 207, and printing is performed using the print job data stored in 203. (213)
