その領域の1つとしてPEP(Phase Encoding Part)領域がある。

【0018】
上記のPEP領域12は、情報記録信号にPE(Phase Encoded)変調を行って生成したPEP(Phase Encoded Part)信号を、トラック1回転分を一単位として複数のトラックに同一にCAV(Constant Angular Velocity)記録(角速度一定で記録)されたものである。
【0019】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an information recording medium such as an optical disk.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Some information recording media (optical discs) such as DVD-ROMs have a region on the innermost periphery where information can be read without performing tracking servo control. One of the regions is a PEP (Phase Encoding Part) region. The PEP area is created as a pre-pit row when a master disk of the optical disk is manufactured, and identification information such as the type of the optical disk and a tracking method is recorded in the PEP area.
[0003]
As the innermost area, a BCA (Burst Cutting Area) area is known in addition to the PEP area (for example, see Patent Document 1). The BCA area is formed in the form of a bar code for each disc at the stage of manufacturing the optical disc. For example, in the case of a DVD-ROM, the BCA area is formed by removing the reflection film with a YAG laser. In the BCA area, identification information of each optical disc such as a serial number is recorded.
[0004]
[Patent Document 1]

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
When forming a PEP area and a BCA area on an optical disk, a method of overwriting the BCA area on the same track as the PEP area in order to secure a data area in which main information such as video and audio should be recorded as large as possible. Has been proposed.
[0006]
For example, FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram showing a conventional optical disc. An optical disc 20 has a control information area 21 for recording control information such as identification information on the innermost periphery of one surface thereof. A half circumference is composed of the PEP area 22, and the other half is composed of the BCA area 23. As a formation procedure, first, as a PEP area, a plurality of the same control information units (PEP segments) are formed over one round of the track (multiplex writing), and the BCA area is overwritten at an arbitrary position on the PEP area. Form.
[0007]
Incidentally, one error correction code (ECC) block is provided for each segment in the PEP area. FIG. 2 is a schematic diagram showing a data configuration in a case where four PEP segments are formed in one round of the control information area 21. As shown in FIGS. 2B and 2C, each segment is provided with one error correction code block.
[0008]
When the BCA area is overwritten on the PEP area, an error occurs in the area of the PEP area which is overwritten and becomes unreadable. If the size of the error portion exceeds the error correction capability, the ECC block becomes unreadable and the entire block breaks down.
[0009]
That is, a PEP segment in which a part or the whole of the segment is overwritten by the BCA area cannot be read. Therefore, in forming the BCA area, it is necessary to perform recording so that at least one PEP segment is completely secured. .
[0010]
FIG. 3 is a schematic diagram showing the relationship between the PEP area formed in the control information area 21 and the BCA area.
For example, when four PEP segments are recorded in one round of a track as shown in FIG. 3A, the BCA area to be overwritten must be 1 / (half) or less of one round. This is because if the BCA area exceeds one half of one round, the BCA area may hang on all PEP segments as shown in FIG. 3B, and a complete PEP segment cannot be secured. As described above, if the number of segments in the PEP area is small (the number of multiplexing is low), there is a problem that the BCA area cannot be enlarged, that is, the amount of information that can be recorded in the BCA area is small.
[0011]
On the other hand, if one PEP segment is made smaller to increase the number of times of multiplex writing, the BCA area can be made larger. However, since the PEP bit of the PEP segment must be made smaller, the reading caused by the BCA recording is performed. There has been a problem that the probability of occurrence of read errors other than errors increases.
[0012]
As described above, if the PEP segment is increased and the multiplexing number is reduced, the amount of information that can be recorded in the BCA area decreases. Conversely, if the PEP segment is reduced and the multiplexing number is increased, the information amount that can be recorded in the BCA area is reduced. However, there is a contradictory problem that the probability of occurrence of a read error in the PEP region increases.
[0013]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problem, and an object of the present invention is to provide an information recording medium that can reduce an unusable PEP area caused by overwriting of a BCA area and record more control information. To provide.
[0014]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, the information recording medium according to claim 1, wherein a reproduction data area for recording reproduction data to be reproduced, and control information including at least reproduction control information necessary for reproducing the reproduction data. Has a control information area recorded in the same manner as a constant angular velocity (CAV) on a plurality of tracks with one rotation of the track as one unit, and the control information is recorded as a PEP (Phase Encoded Part) signal. The data of the data area recorded by the PEP signal is divided into a plurality of error correction units, and an error correction code is recorded in the data area for each error correction unit. Features.
[0015]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments according to the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 4 is a schematic diagram showing the optical disc 10 as the information recording medium according to the embodiment of the present invention.
The optical disc 10 is, for example, a DVD-ROM or the like, and has a reproduction data area 14 for recording reproduction data to be reproduced, a PEP (Phase Encoding Part) area 12 on the innermost circumference of one surface, and a BCA (Burst Cutting Area). An annular control information area 11 including an area 13 is provided.
[0016]
The width in the disk radial direction of the annular control information area 11 is set in consideration of the amount of eccentricity at the time of rotation of the optical disk 10 in order to turn off the tracking servo control and read the portion.
[0017]
As shown in FIG. 5, a plurality of tracks are formed in the PEP area 12, and each track forms 1-bit data (DATA0, DATA1,...) Including a pit row and a mirror section. . In each track of FIG. 5, the same data pit is arranged in the same radial direction of the disk (the direction crossing the track).
[0018]
In the PEP area 12, a PEP (Phase Encoded Part) signal generated by performing a PE (Phase Encoded) modulation on an information recording signal is used to convert a single rotation of the track into one unit, and the same CAV (Constant Angular Velocity) is applied to a plurality of tracks. ) Recorded (recorded at a constant angular velocity).
[0019]
In the present embodiment, a case will be described in which one round of the control information area 11 of the optical disk 10 is composed of four PEP segments (quadruple writing), and one PEP segment is further divided into three ECC blocks. . The same data is recorded in each segment.
[0020]
FIG. 6 is a schematic diagram showing the data configuration of the PEP area in one round of the control information area 11 of the optical disk 10.
As shown in FIGS. 6A and 6B, one round of the control information area 11 is composed of four PEP segments, and each PEP segment is further divided into three ECC blocks. FIG. 6C shows a further enlarged configuration of one PEP segment.
[0021]
Each ECC block is composed of a data part (Data) and an error correction code (ECC), and identification information for identifying a servo system is recorded in the data part.
The data portion also includes signals related to disc reflectance, CAV, CLV discrimination, read power, track discrimination (land or groove), and the like.
In each track, pits of the same data are arranged in the same disk radial direction. This is because the data in this area is read by rotating the optical disk 10 at a constant angular velocity.
[0022]
Since the formation of the PEP area 12 has already been performed when the master disk is manufactured, the optical disk manufactured based on the master disk has the PEP area 12 having the same contents.
[0023]
The BCA area 13 is used for adding identification information such as a serial number to each optical disk manufactured based on the master disk.
The BCA area 13 is formed as a plurality of data blocks by writing to the innermost control information area 11 in the optical disc 10 on which the PEP area has already been formed.
[0024]
Writing to the innermost control information area 11 can be performed by an appropriate length of the write area obtained by conditional expression (2) described later.
As shown in FIG. 7, in the BCA area 13, the information is 1-bit data (DATA 0, DATA 0) composed of a pit row and a mirror part by a bar code composed of a combination of bars 15 composed of a combination of bars extended in the disk radial direction. DATA1,...) Are recorded.
[0025]
Since a recording method and a recording apparatus for the PEP area and the BCA area are known, the description of the procedure for forming each area is omitted.
[0026]
Next, conditions for maximizing the size of the recordable BCA area by dividing the PEP area into a plurality of ECC blocks when overwriting the BCA area on the PEP area will be described.
[0027]
For the PEP area recorded over one round in the control information area 11 of the optical disk 10, the radius of the recording position is r, the number of segments in the PEP area is m (integer), and the number of ECC blocks in the segment is k (integer). ).
[0028]
If the length of the BCA area is n (real number), that is, the BCA area is recorded at 1 / n of one round, the BCA area is recorded in one round of the BCA area overwritten on the PEP area. Since the length of the portion to be read is 2πr / n, the length of the readable PEP area is 2πr−2πr / n.
[0029]
Since there are m PEP segments in one round, and there are k ECC blocks in each segment, the length of one ECC block is 2πr / (m × k). Therefore, the number of ECC blocks in the readable PEP area is
(2πr−2πr / n) / (2πr / (m × k)).
[0030]
If k consecutive ECC blocks can be read even between segments, data for one segment is obtained, and no error occurs in reading the PEP area.
Assuming that the number of blocks is equal to or more than k + 1 in consideration of safety, if the data for one segment can be read, the following equation (1) holds.
[0031]
(Equation 1)
[0032]
From this, the relationship of the following conditional expression (2) is derived.
[0033]
(Equation 2)
[0034]
That is, if m, n, and k are determined so as to satisfy the above expression, it becomes possible to read an ECC block of at least one segment.
[0035]
Here, the extent to which the BCA area can be expanded by dividing the PEP segment into a plurality of ECC blocks is compared with the conventional one using the above conditional expression (2).
[0036]
As described above with reference to FIG. 3, in the conventional information recording medium, when the PEP area has four segments, the BCA area has to be 1 / or less of one round.
[0037]
However, even with the same four segments, in the information recording medium according to the embodiment of the present invention, for example, when dividing a segment into three ECC blocks, if m = 4 and k = 3 are substituted in the conditional expression (2), , N ≧ 1.5. That is, the BCA area can be lengthened up to / of one round.
[0038]
FIG. 8 is a schematic diagram illustrating the relationship between the PEP area and the BCA area of the control information area 11 (when the PEP area is divided into four segments).
In the control information area 11, as shown in FIGS. 8A and 8B, each of the four PEP segments A to D is divided into three ECC blocks. For this reason, as shown in FIG. 8C, even if the BCA area is recorded for more than half of one round, “ECC block 2” and “ECC block 3” of PEP segment C, and “ECC block 1” of PEP segment D Is readable, so that all blocks from “ECC block 1” to “ECC block 3” can be read, although the form extends over the blocks.
[0039]
FIG. 9 is a schematic diagram showing a data configuration of the PEP area and the BCA area in the information recording medium according to the embodiment of the present invention.
Even if the BCA area is overwritten on the four PEP segments formed as shown in FIG. 9A over half the circumference as shown in, for example, FIG. It is possible to read from “ECC block 1” to “ECC block 3”. As described above, in the case of four PEP segments, it is possible to form a BCA area up to 2/3 of one round as derived by the conditional expression (2).
[0040]
On the other hand, in the conventional information recording medium, since each PEP segment has only one ECC block, if the BCA area is suspended in all the PEP segments as shown in FIG. A situation occurs in which the data formed in the area cannot be reproduced.
[0041]
Next, the number of multiplexed PEP areas in the case where the BCA area is fixed to ((half) of one round is compared with the conventional case. As described above with reference to FIG. 3, when the BCA area is fixed to 2, the PEP segment needs to be 4 (multiplexing number = 4) or more in the conventional information recording medium. This is because when the number of multiplexing is 3, the BCA area is hung over all the PEP areas.
[0042]
However, in the information recording medium according to the present embodiment, for example, when a PEP segment is divided into three ECC blocks, if k = 3 and n = 2 are substituted in the conditional expression (2), then m ≧ 8. / 3 is obtained. That is, since the number of multiplexes need only be 8/3 or more, the number of multiplexes can be reduced from quadruple writing to triple writing. Decreasing the number of multiplexes means that the length of the PEP segment can be increased, and thus the amount of control information recorded in the PEP area can be increased.
[0043]
FIG. 10 is a schematic diagram showing a relationship between the PEP area and the BCA area of the control information area 11 (when the BCA area is fixed to 分 の of one round of the control information area).
In the case where the BCA area is fixed to 周 of one round as shown in FIG. 10A, if one segment is divided into three ECC blocks, FIG. As shown, all ECC blocks (from "ECC block 1" to "ECC block 3") can be read without fail.
[0044]
Therefore, the amount of control information in the PEP area can be increased by the amount of change from quadruple writing (1/4 of one round) to triple writing (1/3 of one round) (1/12 of one round). It is.
[0045]
In the above embodiment, the PEP area 12 recorded in the innermost control information area 11 of the optical disk 10 has four segments, but the number of segments is not limited to this.
[0046]
Further, as long as the above-mentioned conditional expression (2) is satisfied, the maximum number of segments and the length of the BCA area can be controlled in each area regardless of which one is determined. It is possible to record information.
[0047]
Further, in the above-described embodiment, the innermost peripheral portion of the optical disc 10 is selected as the control information area 11 having the same radius forming the PEP block and the BCA block. And the like may be a control information area provided in the above.
[0048]
As described above, when the control information is recorded by overwriting the BCA area on the PEP area, one PEP segment is divided into a plurality of ECC blocks and recorded, so that the unreadable PEP area is reduced. Thus, a large BCA area can be secured, and more control information can be recorded in the BCA area.
[0049]
Further, according to the information recording medium of the present embodiment, when recording control information by overwriting the BCA area on the PEP area, one PEP segment is divided into a plurality of ECC blocks and recorded. Accordingly, if the amount of control information in the BCA area to be recorded is the same, the number of multiplexed PEP segments can be reduced, and more control information can be recorded in the PEP area.
