Abstract
Description
【0001】

5GB−1GB(OS)−500MB(文章管理ソフト)=3.5GB

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a resource management system, a program, and a recording medium. More specifically, the present invention guarantees the operation of software running on an information device in an environment in which it can operate in a realistic manner, thereby preventing unexpected failures. The present invention relates to a resource management technique for preventing occurrence of a resource.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In conventional software, if the performance of an information device is used to its limit, not only will a failure easily occur, but also the operation of the device itself will be affected.
In addition, it is difficult to prepare an environment in which a test can be performed to the limit of the operation range even with a function that can be operated theoretically, so that a sufficient test cannot be performed and an unexpected failure occurs.
[0003]
For example, it is assumed that a computer equipped with a CPU of 1 GHz, a memory of 1 GB, and a hard disk of 5 GB operates an OS and software for managing text (hereinafter, text management software). This OS uses a 500 MB memory and a 1 GB hard disk.
Further, when there is a memory use request from software running on the OS, the OS swaps out the shortage to the hard disk and provides the available memory to the software.
On the other hand, the sentence management software requires 700 MB of memory to operate, 500 MB of hard disk to store programs, and 100 MB of memory to register one sentence. .
Also, it is assumed that the text management software has been confirmed to cause an error due to file writing when the available hard disk is reduced, and to damage data.
[0004]
In such a situation, when the text management software operates, the memory space of 200 MB is insufficient. However, the OS swaps out the memory of 200 MB used by the OS itself to the hard disk, and the free memory space of 700 MB. Is provided to the sentence management software.
When the sentence management software is executed and the sentence is registered, and the stored sentence becomes 3.2 GB, the used amount of the hard disk is 1 GB for the use of the OS, 200 MB after the OS is swapped out, and the amount used for the sentence management software. When 500 MB is combined, it is 4.9 GB.
Further, when registering one sentence of 100 MB, the OS tries to swap out the memory of 100 MB to the hard disk due to the memory of 100 MB. However, at this time, the used amount of the hard disk becomes 5.0 G. In this case, data being registered in the hard disk will be damaged.
[0005]
Conventionally, as a method of controlling the execution of the software that causes a failure, a limit value of the usage amount of resources (CPU, memory, disk, and other hardware) of an information device is set in advance and is set to a value equal to or greater than the limit value. Processing was deterred.
However, the amount of resources used varies depending on the scale of data to be processed and the like, and with this method, it is practically impossible for the user to set an appropriate limit value in advance.
[0006]
In order to solve this, the “job behavior analysis method and apparatus and storage medium” of Patent Document 1 discloses a computer resource (CPU, memory, disk / magnetic tape and network) of a job during or after processing. Check the deviation of the usage status, and if there is a deviation in the usage status, detect the job being processed or after processing as an abnormal job at an early stage to avoid unnecessary computer resource investment and process Prevents deterioration of time.
[0007]
[Patent Document 1]
Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. 2000-29752
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, the technique disclosed in Patent Document 1 detects and eliminates an abnormal job, detects the job before an abnormal situation occurs, restricts the software, and operates the software. Is not guaranteed.
[0009]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described circumstances, and provides a resource management system, a program, and a recording medium that increase software stability by restricting software functions before an abnormal situation occurs. It is aimed at.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above problem, a resource management system according to claim 1 of the present invention is a resource management system that manages resources used by software running on information equipment. Limit setting means for setting a possible range, and operating range verifying means for verifying that the software is operating within the operable range set by the limit setting means, and operable by the operating range verifying means Software that attempts to operate outside of the specified range is detected, unexpected software failures are prevented, and operational stability is enhanced.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the resource management system according to the first aspect, when the software is installed in the information device, an operable upper limit of the information device is checked, and an operable range from the operable upper limit is determined. Is determined.
According to a third aspect of the present invention, in the resource management system according to the first aspect, when a server is connected to one or more information devices via a network, the server holds an operable range of the information device. The restriction setting means of the information device acquires an operable range held in the server and sets the operable range as an operable range of the information device.
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, in the resource management system of the first aspect, when a server is connected to one or more information devices via a network, the server installs software on the information device via a network. Further, the operable upper limit of the information device is checked, and the operable range determined from the operable upper limit is set as the operable range of the information device.
According to a fifth aspect of the present invention, in the resource management system according to the first aspect, the information device has a warning value as an operable range, and the operating range verification unit determines that the usage of the software resource is less than the warning value. When it is determined that the value has been reached, a warning is transmitted to the user.
According to a sixth aspect of the present invention, in the resource management system according to the fifth aspect, when a server and one or more information devices are connected via a network, the operation range verifying unit may warn the usage amount of the software resource. When it is determined that the value has been reached, a warning is transmitted to the server.
A program according to a seventh aspect of the present invention is a program for causing a computer to execute the functions of the resource management system according to any one of the first to sixth aspects.
A recording medium according to claim 8 of the present invention is a computer-readable recording medium on which the program according to claim 7 is recorded.
[0011]
With the above-described configuration, by detecting a resource shortage in advance when executing software, an unexpected software failure can be prevented beforehand, and the operation stability of the entire information device can be improved.
In addition, by automatically setting the limit value of the operable range at the time of software installation, the procedure for setting the limit value by the administrator can be simplified.
Also, a warning value is provided as a limit value of the operable range, and when the available amount of resources exceeds this warning value, a warning is notified to the user, and the software restricts the function. It will be easier to take measures before taking action.
[0012]
Further, when the information device is managed by a server in a network or the like, the limit value of the operable range of each information device is stored in the server, and when the information device needs to make an inquiry about resource use, By obtaining the limit value from the server, the setting procedure for each information device can be simplified.
Alternatively, when software is installed in an information device via a network, the setting procedure of the limit value can be simplified by setting the information device directly from the server.
[0013]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, an embodiment of a resource management system of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
<First embodiment>
FIG. 1 is a block diagram illustrating a functional configuration of a resource management system according to a first embodiment of the present invention.
In FIG. 1, a resource management system operating on an information device includes software 1, an OS (operating system) 2, an operation
The software 1 is, for example, application software for performing sentence management, application software for creating a document, or utility software such as file copying. The software 1 is used to monitor resources (CPU, memory, disk, and other hardware). Software.

An OS (Operating System) 2 controls the execution of the software 1 and resources in information devices.
For example, the

For example, the limit storage unit 5 stores the maximum amount of memory that can be used by the information device, the maximum amount that can be used for each storage device, and the limitation of the CPU operation rate.
The administrator of the information device may set the limit value of the resource stored in the limit storage unit 5, but when installing the software 1, the installer checks the resource of the information device and sets it. It may be.
[0016]
For example, when an OS that consumes the resources of the memory 500 MB and the hard disk 1 GB is operating in an information device having the resources of the memory 1 GB and the hard disk 5 GB, the resource of the memory 700 MB and the hard disk 500 MB is consumed by using the installer. Consider the case where text management software is installed.
When the installation process starts, the installer obtains resource information owned by the information device being installed, resource information consumed during the operation of the OS (for example, a swap-out area, etc.) and resource information of the installed software, An appropriate limit value (for example, set to 80% of the maximum available amount) is determined from available resource information obtained by subtracting resource information consumed by software being installed.
In this case, the maximum available hard disk space is
5 GB-1 GB (OS)-500 MB (text management software) = 3.5 GB
Therefore, the limit value is set to 2.8 GB, which is 80% of the available maximum amount of 3.5 GB.

When notified of “resource use stop” from the operation
Further, when the
As a result, since the resource is not used beyond the available range, destruction of already registered data and the like is eliminated.

Further, a warning value is held for each resource in the restriction storage means 5, and the operation range verification means 3 detects whether the requested resource amount exceeds the warning value. Such a warning message may be displayed on a screen of a display device provided in the information device.
In this case, a warning is notified to the user, so that the user can easily take measures before the software restricts the function.
[0021]
For example, if the warning value of the hard disk of the restriction storage unit 5 is set to 2.0 GB and the available maximum amount is set to 3.0 GB, the usage amount of the hard disk becomes 2.0 GB when the text management software is operating. When it reaches, a warning message having the contents as shown in FIG. 3 is displayed on the screen of the display device.

【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, an unexpected software failure can be prevented beforehand by detecting a resource shortage at the time of executing software, and the operation stability of the entire information device can be improved.
In addition, by automatically setting a limit value of an operable range at the time of software installation, a procedure for an administrator to set the limit value can be simplified.
In addition, a warning value is provided as a limit value of the operable range, and when the available amount of resources exceeds this warning value, a warning is notified to the user, and the software restricts the function. It will be easier to take measures before taking action.
[0034]
If the information device is managed by a server in a network or the like, the limit value of the operable range of each information device is stored in the server, and when the information device needs to make an inquiry about resource use, By obtaining the limit value from the server, the setting procedure for each information device can be simplified.
Alternatively, when software is installed in an information device via a network, the setting of the limit value can be simplified by directly setting each information device from the server.
