【発明の明細】
登録サーバは、ソフトウェア製品開発会社と独立し、すべての開発会社に開か
れている。ユーザコンピュータ上で、ソフトウェア製品は、ユーザソフトウェア
使用権管理プログラムに対し、当該ユーザが当該ソフトウェアの使用権を有する
かを問う。ユーザ使用権管理プログラムは、ソフトウェア登録サーバから受け取
った使用権ファイルを調査し、当該ソフトウェア製品に応答する。もし回答が“
ｎｏ”であれば、ソフトウェア製品は動作を中止する。もし回答が“ｙｅｓ”で
あれば、動作を継続する。当該使用権ファイルは、当該ファイルがユーザ公開キ
ーによって暗号化されソフトウェア登録サーバの秘密キーによって電子署名され
るので、他の不正なユーザによって使用されることができない。使用権ファイル
を使用するためには、ユーザは、当該ユーザの秘密キーを必要とし、そのキーを

フトウェア製品使用権登録である。ユーザ一人につき一回自身のためのユーザ登
録を行う。その後に、ユーザは、ＣＰＵ一つにつき１回ＣＰＵを登録する。 ユーザは、特定ＣＰＵのすべてのソフトウェア製品につき一回ソフトウェア製
品使用権を登録する。ソフトウェア登録サーバに接続後、すべての登録は完了す
る。 ユーザ登録において、ユーザは、ソフトウェア登録サーバから不完全なユーザ
身分証ファイルを受け取る。不完全なユーザ身分証ファイルを受け取った後、ユ
ーザ使用権管理プログラムは、ユーザの一対の公開キー・秘密キーとユーザの登
録サーバの公開キーとを不完全なユーザ身分証ファイルに加える。このユーザ身
分証ファイルは、ＣＰＵの登録およびソフトウェア製品の購買において必要であ
る。そのユーザ身分証ファイルは、いかなるＣＰＵとも独立し、ユーザが持って
いるすべてのＣＰＵに複写されなければならない。 ＣＰＵ登録において、ユーザは、ソフトウェア登録サーバから使用権ファイル
を得る。そして、使用権ファイルは、ユーザが新しいソフトウェア製品を購買ま
たは製品をアップグレードするときごとに更新される。ユーザが新しい製品を購
買または製品をアップグレードするごとに、当該ソフトウェア製品情報は、使用
権ファイルに追加される。 それだけではなく、有効期限があるため、使用権ファイルは定期的に更新され
る。有効期限または更新期間は、ユーザ身分証ファイルまたは使用権ファイルが

に制御される。 もう一つの方法は、ＣＰＵベースの使用権である。この使用権は、使用権ファ
イルにおいてユーザに対するいかなる制約もなく、特定ＣＰＵに与えられる。 一般的に、使用権ファイルは、ユーザの公開キーで暗号化されるが、ＣＰＵベ
ースの使用権は、ＣＰＵの公開キーにより暗号化される。 ＣＰＵベースの使用権のため、当該ＣＰＵのためだけに一対の秘密キー・公開
キーが作られる。ユーザ・ＣＰＵベースの使用権の場合とユーザベースの使用権
の場合には、ＣＰＵ用に新たに一対のキーを作ることなくユーザの一対の秘密キ
ー・公開キーが使用される。 会社の場合、一つのＰＣまたはワークステーションには、ユーザに加えて所有
者がいる。所有者は、ＰＣまたはワークステーションのユーザを変更する権利を
持っている。会社の職員が退職する場合、会社（所有者）は、当該ＰＣまたはワ
ークステーションに新しいユーザを指定することになる。使用権ファイルには、
使用者情報に加えて所有者情報がある。
【本発明を実行するための最良の形態】
独立的なソフトウェア登録サーバを利用したソフトウェア使用権管理方法は、
次のような段階で構成される。 ユーザコンピュータ上のユーザソフトウェア使用権管理プログラムによってユ
ーザ用に一対の秘密キー・公開キーを作成する。ユーザ用の一対のキーが随意的
に登録サーバサイト上の登録サーバによって作られる。 ソフトウェア登録サーバ一覧表から一を選択することによってソフトウェア登
録サーバに接続し、前記登録サーバに前記ユーザ公開キーを送り、前記登録サー
バの公開キーを受け取る。当該ソフトウェア登録サーバは、一つのソフトウェア
製品開発会社だけでなくすべての開発会社に利用される、 ソフトウェア登録サーバにユーザ一人につき一回ユーザを登録し、ソフトウェ
ア登録サーバから不完全な身分証ファイルを受け取る。ユーザソフトウェア使用
権管理プログラムは、一対のユーザ秘密キー・公開キーとユーザソフトウェア登
録サーバの公開キーとを不完全なユーザ身分証ファイルに加える。当該不完全な
ユーザ身分証ファイルは、ユーザ公開キーによって暗号化され、電子署名された
ユーザ情報を含む。このユーザ身分証ファイルは、ＣＰＵの登録およびソフトウ
ェア製品使用権の登録を必要とする。 コンピュータハードウェアのためにＣＰＵにつき一回、登録サーバにＣＰＵを
登録し、使用権ファイルを受け取る。ここで、使用権ファイルは、ユーザ公開キ
ーで暗号化されサーバの秘密キーで電子署名されたＣＰＵ情報を含む。 ソフトウェア製品を購買し、それを当該ソフトウェア登録サーバに登録し、Ｃ
ＰＵ情報に新しく購買したソフトウェア情報を追加して更新された使用権ファイ

いかなるソフトウェア登録サーバ、またはいかなるＦＴＰサイトからでもダウン
ロードすることができる。 ソフトウェア製品使用権を確認する。ユーザコンピュータ上において、ソフト
ウェア製品は、ソフトウェア使用権管理プログラムに当該ユーザが特定のＣＰＵ
のための当該ソフトウェアの使用権を有するかを問う。ユーザソフトウェア使用
権管理プログラムは、使用権ファイルを調査して、当該ソフトウェア製品に対し
応答する。もし回答が“ｎｏ”ならば、ソフトウェア製品は動作を中止する。ソ
フトウェア製品使用権は、特定使用者の特定ＣＰＵに与えられる。 ユーザ情報、ＣＰＵ情報、およびソフトウェア製品使用権情報がソフトウェア
登録サーバのデータベースに格納される。 ソフトウェア登録サーバのデータベースの内容を中央ソフトウェア登録サーバ
に複写する。当該データベースは、バックアップの目的のために、および、ソフ
トウェア登録サーバの変更または前のユーザと現在のユーザとの登録サーバが異
なる場合のユーザの変更のようなソフトウェア登録サーバ間の機能の交差のため
に用いられる。 ソフトウェア製品開発会社によって、ソフトウェア製品は、中央ソフトウェア
登録サーバに登録される。登録されたソフトウェア製品情報は、製品識別番号、
価格、必要なソフトウェア環境などを含む。中央ソフトウェア登録サーバは、製
品情報を全世界のソフトウェア登録サーバに配信する。だから、ユーザは、登録
されたソフトウェア製品の一覧表からソフトウェア製品を選択することができる
。もし、ユーザがソフトウェア識別番号を知っていれば、上記の手続きに従う必
要なく、ただちにソフトウェア識別番号を入力し、ソフトウェア製品を決定する
ことができる。 有効期限または更新期間にしたがって、ユーザ身分証ファイルと使用権ファイ
ルとは更新する。有効期限または更新期間は、ユーザ身分証ファイルや使用権フ
ァイルを長期間不正に使用されることを防止する。 ユーザの変更の場合、ＣＰＵの所有者によって当該ＣＰＵのユーザが変更され
る。使用権ファイルは、所有者情報を有する。 オペレーティングシステムおよびネットワークプログラムのために、使用権フ
ァイルを有する前に、ソフトウェア登録サーバを接続する。登録センターに接続
しおよびソフトウェア製品使用権に登録するような段階では使用権を検査するこ
とがない特別なオペレーティングシステムおよびネットワークプログラムは、そ
れ自身登録が要求されるオペレーティングシステムおよびネットワークプログラ
ムの使用権を得る困難を取り除く。特別なオペレーティングシステムとネットワ
ークプログラムとを使用する代わりに、ユーザソフトウェア使用権管理プログラ
ムは、オペレーティングシステムおよびネットワークシステムに試用期間内に使
用することができる制限された使用権を与えることができる。

  1. 【請求項１】 ユーザコンピュータ上のユーザソフトウェア使用権管理プロ
    グラムによってユーザ用の一対の秘密キー・公開キーが作られ、ユーザ用の一対
    のキーが随意的に登録サーバサイト上の登録サーバによって作られる工程と、 ソフトウェア登録サーバ一覧表から一を選択することによって、一つのソフト
    ウェア製品開発会社だけでなくすべての開発会社に開かれているソフトウェア登
    録サーバに接続し、前記登録サーバに前記ユーザ公開キーを送るとともに、前記
    登録サーバの公開キーを受け取る工程と、 ソフトウェア登録サーバにユーザ一人につき一回ユーザを登録し、ユーザ公開
    キーによって暗号化されるとともにソフトウェア登録サーバによって電子署名さ
    れたユーザ情報を含む不完全なユーザ身分証ファイルを受け取る工程と、この工
    程において、ユーザソフトウェア使用権管理プログラムは、一対のユーザ秘密キ
    ー・公開キーとユーザソフトウェア登録サーバの公開キーとを不完全なユーザ身
    分証ファイルに加える、また、当該ユーザ身分証ファイルは、ＣＰＵの登録およ
    びソフトウェア製品使用権の登録において必要である、 一つのＣＰＵにつき一回ユーザのコンピュータのハードウェア用のＣＰＵを前
    記ソフトウェア登録サーバに登録し、ユーザ公開キーによって暗号化されるとと
    もにソフトウェア登録サーバ秘密キーによって電子署名されたＣＰＵ情報を含む
    使用権ファイルを受け取る工程と、 ソフトウェア製品を購買し、前記ソフトウェア登録サーバに当該ソフトウェア
    製品を登録するとともに、ＣＰＵ情報に加えて購買されたソフトウェア製品情報
    をさらに含む更新された使用権ファイルを受け取り、この新しい使用権ファイル
    は古い使用権ファイルと置き換える工程と、 ソフトウェア製品を配信する工程と、この工程において、前記ソフトウェア製
    品は、ソフトウェア登録サーバ、中央ソフトウェア登録サーバまたはソフトウェ
    ア製品開発会社によって電子署名される、また、電子署名された前記ソフトウェ
    ア製品は、ソフトウェア製品開発会社、いかなるソフトウェア登録サーバ、また
    はいかなるＦＴＰサーバサイトからもダウンロードすることができる、 ソフトウェア製品使用権を確認する工程と、この工程において、ソフトウェア
    製品は、ユーザコンピュータ上のユーザソフトウェア使用権管理プログラムに対
    して、その特定のＣＰＵにおけるソフトウェア製品の使用権をユーザが有するか
    どうかを問う、そして、ユーザソフトウェア使用権管理プログラムは、使用権フ
    ァイルを調査し、当該ソフトウェア製品に応答する、そして、もし、使用権を有
    さないなら、当該ソフトウェアは動作を中止する、また、ソフトウェア製品使用

    バのデータベースを中央ソフトウェア登録サーバに複写する工程と、 ソフトウェア製品開発会社によって中央ソフトウェア登録サーバにソフトウェ
    ア製品を登録する工程と、この工程において、登録されたソフトウェア製品情報
    は、製品識別番号、価格、および必要なソフトウェア環境などを含む、また、中
    央ソフトウェア登録サーバは、ユーザが登録されたソフトウェア一覧表からソフ

    ァイルを更新する工程と、この工程において、有効期限または更新期間は、ユー
    ザ身分証または使用権ファイルの長期間の不正使用を防止する、 ユーザを変更する場合には、ＣＰＵの所有者が当該ＣＰＵのユーザを変更する
    工程と、この工程において、使用権ファイルは、所有者情報を含む、 オペレーティングシステムおよびネットワークプログラム用の使用権ファイル
    を有する前にソフトウェア登録サーバを接続する工程と、この工程において、登
    録センターに接続したりソフトウェア製品使用権に登録するような段階では使用
    権を検査しないですむ特別なオペレーティングシステムおよびネットワークプロ
    グラムは、それ自身登録が要求されるオペレーティングシステムおよびネットワ
    ークプログラム用の使用権を得る困難を取り除く、また、特別なオペレーティン
    グシステムとネットワークプログラムとを使用する代わりに、ユーザソフトウェ
    ア使用権管理プログラムは、オペレーティングシステムおよびネットワークシス
    テムに試用期間内に使用することができる制限された使用権ファイルを与えるこ
    とができる、 を有することを特徴とする独立的なソフトウェア登録サーバを利用したソフト
    ウェア使用権管理方法。
  2. 【請求項２】 自動的に一つのソフトウェア登録サーバに接続し、 世界で一台のみの登録サーバが存在し、すべての登録サービスをする、結果と
    して、一台のみのサーバが存在するので登録サーバから中央登録サーバへの複写
    がなく、そして、中央登録サーバから登録サーバへ登録された製品情報の配信が
    ない請求項１に記載の方法。
  3. 【請求項３】 特定のＣＰＵに制限を与えることなくソフトウェア製品の使
    用権を確認する工程を有し、 この工程において、使用権ファイルに“ユーザベースの使用権”の表示があれ
    ば、ユーザコンピュータ上のユーザソフトウェア使用権管理プログラムは、ＣＰ
    Ｕ情報を検査しない請求コウ１に記載の方法。
  4. 【請求項４】 使用権ファイルに明示された特定ユーザに制限を与えること
    なくソフトウェア製品使用権を確認する工程をさらに有し、 この工程において、使用権ファイルに“ＣＰＵベースの使用権”の表示があれ
