22 present invention relates to a surgical stapling gun, and more particularly, to the use of staples in lung surgery. The present invention relates to a bioprosthesis filmstrip for preventing air leakage and a method for attaching the strip to a stapling gun. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTIONIn various soft tissue surgery applications, for example, incision of diseased lung tissue, surgeons use a linear stapling gun to stap the tissue layers on each side of the proposed cut to each other. To lock. Along the proposed cut, diseased tissue is excised from healthy tissue. These stapling guns include, for example, a pair of elongated jaws for clamping a lung from which a cancerous lobe is to be removed. One jaw supports a cartridge containing parallel rows of biocompatible staples positioned end-to-end, and the other jaw supports a parallel row of anvils for these staples. I do. After placement of the staples, the scalpel is pulled lengthwise between the rows of staples and one stapled lung section is cut from the other. Due to the nature of the lung tissue, air leaks occur where the staples puncture the lung tissue. This leak continues until the lung tissue heals around the staples, thus requiring the patient to be hospitalized for an extended period. To alleviate this problem, it has been proposed to drive the staples through a bioprosthesis film that can act as a gasket or sealant on the punctured lung tissue. Suitable materials for this purpose include natural materials such as bovine pericardium fixed with glutaraldehyde, collagen-absorbable hemostats, artificial materials such as vicryl (polygalactin) mesh and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). It is. A problem arises when trying to attach strips made of these materials to the jaws of a stapler so that they can be conveniently removed from the jaws after the stapling operation. For example, one prior art method involves suturing a strip composed of a bioprosthetic film to a strip of polyethylene-lined material to form a sleeve. One of these sleeves is then placed over each jaw of the stapler with the bioprosthesis film strip facing inward. After the stapling operation, the edges of the strip must be cut to remove the backing material and the suture. The backing material and the suture are discarded. In practicing this method, the surgeon must take care that no backing material or suture remains in the patient's body. Other attachment methods include using adhesives and adhesive tapes, but these methods are not simple and satisfactory. Therefore, the method of attaching the bioprosthesis film strip to the stapler jaw, which can easily and securely attach the bioprosthesis film strip to the stapler jaw, and furthermore, the bioprosthesis film strip can be easily attached to the jaw. There is a need for a method that allows for resection. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention satisfies the needs described above by providing a flat bioprosthetic film strip having a perforated end. In one preferred embodiment of the invention, the perforated end of the strip is simply bent out of the plane of the strip and the jaws are slid into the holes. After stapling, the strip can be removed from the jaws, which in a preferred embodiment is done by cutting the strip adjacent to the hole, leaving the entire strip in the patient. In another preferred embodiment of the present invention, the strip can be secured to the proximal or both ends of the jaws using retaining pins. The strip can be slid off the pin when the jaws are opened after the stapling operation. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1a is a front view of a lung showing stapled and cut lobes; FIG. 1b is a cut lobe extension along line 1b-1b of FIG. 1a. FIG. 2 is a perspective view of a typical stapling gun used in the stapling operation of FIG. 1, and FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a bioprosthesis film strip used in the present invention. Figure 4 is a plan view of the preferred embodiment; Figure 4 is a perspective view of the jaws of the stapler of Figure 2 with the strip of Figure 3 attached; and Figure 5 is a variation of the bioprosthesis film strip of the present invention. FIG. 6 is a perspective view of a stapler using the strip of FIG. 5, FIG. 7 is a side view of a stapler jaw with the strip of FIG. The figure shows the It is a sectional view taken along line 8-8 of FIG. Figure 1 describes the preferred embodiment, the present invention exhibit useful environment. In this figure, it is assumed that there are lobes 12 in the lungs 10 that are diseased and must be removed by surgery. The removal of the lobe compresses the lung 10 along the line 16 between the jaws of the stapler 14 (see FIG. 2), on each side of this line 16 with two parallel sets of rows of surgical staples 18. This is done by stapling. The lung tissue is then cut along line 16 with a scalpel blade 17 moving along a channel 19 (see FIG. 8) between the two rows. Typically, several stacked and stapled layers are cut at an angle to one another (see FIG. 1a). In order to prevent excessive air leakage from the lung tissue 20 (see FIG. 1b) pierced by the staples 18, the staples 18 are conventionally made of bovine pericardium, collagen-absorbing hemostat, vicryl mesh. , Or through a strip of bioprosthetic sealing material 22 such as expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). These materials effectively seal the punctured lung. FIG. 2 shows the stapler 14 used in the surgery described above. The stapler 14 has a handle 24 and a pair of jaws 26,28. These jaws 26, 28 can be opened wide before use, like the jaws of a pliers, then closed and squeezed against each other during use. Jaw 26 supports the staple 18 cartridge, and jaw 28 supports anvil 30. In use of the stapler 14, a strip of sealing material 22 is placed over the staples 18 of the jaws 26 and over the anvil 30 of the jaws 28 (see FIGS. 3 and 4). The strip 22 must be attached to the jaws 26, 28 so that it is securely held by the jaws 26, 28 but can be quickly and easily removed from the jaws 26, 28. This is to allow the jaws 26, 28 to be separated after stapling. Prior art solutions to this problem have several different approaches. One method is to sew a polymeric backing material to the strip along the longitudinal edges of the strip. As a result, the strip and backing material form a sleeve that can be placed over the jaws 26,28. After stapling, cut the suture and remove the backing material. Doing this requires cutting a significant number of sutures and removing the backing material while holding the stapler in the closed position, which may be further troublesome, possibly due to sleeve misalignment with the jaws. Therefore, this method is not a satisfactory method. Thus, with this prior art method, there is a risk that the backing material or sutures may be accidentally left in the patient. Alternatively, the strip 22 is temporarily secured to the jaws 26, 28, but using a biocompatible adhesive or adhesive tape to allow the strip to be released from the jaws when the jaws are opened. did. This method provides a satisfactory compromise between adhering foreign objects into the body and sufficient adhesion for handling and sufficient releasability to prevent the strip 22 from being damaged after stapling. It is not a satisfactory method because it is difficult to always achieve this. According to a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the problem described above is addressed by forming at least one hole in the extension of the jaws 26, 28 extending longitudinally beyond the stapling area and having a diameter substantially equal to the diameter of the jaw. The problem is solved by providing a strip 22 which has been prepared. FIG. 3 shows a preferred embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, the length of the central portion 32 of the strip 22 corresponds to the length of the stapling area of the jaws 26 or 28. The strip 22 has an extension 34a or 34b at each end of the central portion 32. In the embodiment of FIG. 3, the extension 34a has a suitable size and shape (preferably along the corners of the square jaws 26, 28) to allow the passage of the jaws 26 or 28. A circular opening 36a that provides an interference fit is formed. Preferably, the opening 36a of the extension 34a is small enough to fit snugly over the tip of the jaw 26 or 28. The extension 34b has an opening 36b formed therein, and the strip 22 is cut along the line 39. When the outer end of the extension 34 is lifted out of the plane of the strip 22, the tongue 35 remains in the plane of the strip 22. The opening 36b of the extension 34b is large enough to fit somewhat loosely with a small interference fit on the proximal end of the jaw 26 or 28. The actual size of openings 36a and 36b depends on several factors. On the other hand, these openings 36 must be large enough to allow the surgeon or stapler operator to slide or slide the strip 22 along the jaws 26, 28, but will not allow the strip to move over the jaws 26, 28. Must be small enough to hold in place. On the other hand, the openings 36a and 36b must not be small enough to make it difficult to slide the strip 22 over the jaws 26, 28, or so as to create a risk of tearing the strip 22 during installation. In practice, the diameter of the openings 36a and 36b may be between about 0.5 cm and 1.0 cm, the exact size depending on the size and geometry of the jaws 26, 28. Strip 22 may be, for example, about 2 cm wide for a 1 cm wide staple cartridge. In a typical stapler (see FIGS. 2 and 7), the staple cartridge 18 extends the full length to the proximal end of the jaw 26. When the end 34b of the strip 22 is in the stapling position, it is at a predetermined angle to the jaws 26 or 28 (see FIG. 7), so that the end 34b is pre-cut along the line 39. (See FIG. 3). By bending the outer end of the extension 34b out of the plane of the strip 22, the opening 36b can be over the end of the jaw, but the tongue 35 remains in the plane of the strip 22 and the staple cartridge 18 or anvil Cover 30 entirely up to the proximal end of jaw 26 or 29. In use, extensions 34a and 34b are bent out of the plane of strip 22 as shown in FIG. 4 and are easily slid over jaws 26 or 28. The elasticity of the flexible strip material (eg, bovine pericardium) holds the strip 22 firmly against the jaws 26 or 28. After the stapling operation, the scalpel blade 17 is operated to cut the lung tissue and the strip 22 along the broken line 37. To remove the strip 22 from the stapler, the operator makes a scalpel cut at 38 at the protruding ends 34a and 34b. In a typical stapler, the blade 17 does not move all the way to the tip of the stapling cartridge 18 (see FIG. 7), and after the jaws 26, 28 have been removed, a further scalpel cut is made at 43 at 43 to ensure a healthy The lung tissue and the stapled half of the strip need to be cut and completely separated from the diseased lung tissue and the stapled half of the strip associated with the tissue. 5a and 6 show another preferred embodiment of the present invention. In this embodiment, stapler 14 has one or more pins 40 formed at the proximal end of at least one of jaws 26,28. The extension 34b does not have a large opening 36b, but preferably has one or more small openings 42 that are slightly smaller in diameter than the pins 40. In the embodiment of FIGS. 5 and 6, the strip 22 covers the opening 36 of the extension 34a over the jaw 26 or 28 and then covers the opening 42 of both strips 22 over the pin 40 of the jaw 26. Thus, it is attached to the jaws 26, 28. Before the stapling, the strip 22 is held on the pin 40 by the elasticity of the strip material, and when the jaws 26, 28 are opened after the stapling, the strip 22 is easily separated from the pin 40. It is also possible to use pins 40 on both jaws 26, 28 and use small openings 42 at both ends of the strip 22. In this case, the opening 36 is unnecessary (see FIG. 5b). In this case, the strip 22 can be secured simply by hooking the opening 42 to the pin 40 and pressing the strip 22 against the stapling surfaces of the jaws 26, 28. With the diameter of the opening 42 being slightly smaller than the diameter of the pin 40, the opening 42 can be engaged with the pin 40 so that it is secure but can be easily removed. It will be appreciated that the exemplary bioprosthesis film strip for a surgical stapler described herein and shown in the accompanying drawings is a presently preferred embodiment of the present invention. Indeed, various modifications and additions can be made to such embodiments without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Thus, other modifications and additions will be apparent to those skilled in the art and may be made to adapt the present invention for use in a variety of different applications.
