FIG. 3 shows another example of the face reinforcing member 3, in which a plurality of small holes 20 are provided in left and right regions X and Y, respectively.
5A and 5B show an example in which A and 30A are formed. The small holes 20A and 30A preferably have a diameter of 1.0 to 8.0 mm in diameter, and three or more holes are formed in each of the regions X and Y. By forming the holes 20 and 30 and the small holes 20A and 30A in the left and right regions X and Y of the face reinforcing member 3, the weight of the face reinforcing member 3 can be reduced.
Even if the weight of the face reinforcing member 3 is reduced, sufficient strength can be maintained due to the presence of the band portion 3A and the peripheral portion 3B. In particular, it is necessary that the width of the belt-shaped portion 3A is formed in the range of 20 to 40 mm so as not to deteriorate the strength.

The face member 2 is made of a metal material such as stainless steel, maraging steel, aluminum alloy or titanium alloy, which is a forged or rolled material having a substantially uniform thickness (thickness: 1.0 to 2.5 mm). Molded. The same material is also used for the face reinforcing member 3.
It is preferable to mold with a thickness of 0 mm to 3.0 mm,
It is preferable that the total thickness of the face member 2 and the face reinforcing member 3 be 2.5 mm to 4.5 mm. The face reinforcing member 3 has a width of 2 to 5 mm inward from the outer circumference to form a peripheral edge 3B. This peripheral portion 3B becomes an area for welding. The thickness of the peripheral portion 3B is set to a substantially constant thickness,
In addition, it is an area where no irregularities such as drilling and grooves are applied. It is necessary that the peripheral portion 3B does not change its thickness in order to stabilize welding. The band-shaped portion 3A of the face reinforcing member 3 has a width 2 in the vertical direction including the face center C and the sweet spot S of the face portion 1.
It is an area of 0 to 45 mm, and is an area where no hole processing is performed similarly to the peripheral portion 3B. When the face member 2 hits a ball, the belt-shaped portion 3A is bent most, and the bent portion of the face member 2 reaches the face reinforcing member 3, and the face reinforcing member 3 may also be bent. Since it is the area that hits the ball most frequently, it must have sufficient strength to withstand repeated bending. For this reason, it is necessary that the band-shaped portion 3A is not drilled. In the left and right regions X and Y, the face member 2 does not bend as much as the portion corresponding to the band-shaped portion 3A including the face center C even when the ball is hit. The reinforcing strength may be low. For this reason, the holes 20 and 30 and the small holes 20A and 30A are provided to reduce the weight of the face reinforcing member 3 so that the center of gravity of the head can be moved backward, For example, the degree of freedom in design can be increased, such as by increasing However, if the regions X and Y are completely hollow, it becomes impossible to obtain at least a reinforcing effect at the time of off-center hit, so that at least three small holes 20A on the left and right, more preferably five or more small holes 20A are used. , 30A, but holes 2 occupying most of the left and right regions X, Y.
It may be 0, 30. The shape of the small holes 20A and 30A is circular in the above-described embodiment, but is not necessarily required to be circular.

The present invention is particularly effective when applied to a wood golf club head called a driver. Therefore, in order to enlarge the head, a material having a small specific gravity, for example, a metal material having a specific gravity of 5 or less is used. Is preferred. The volume of the head is preferably 250 to 400 cc or more, and particularly preferably about 280 to 365 cc. Face width is 40mm or more and 60mm or less, preferably 43m
m or more and 55 mm or less. In particular, since the shape of the face member 2 affects the repulsion of the ball, the width of the face member 2 is 35 mm or more and 55 mm or less, preferably 38 mm or more and 5 mm or more.
0 mm or less is good. The resilience is improved when the length and the width of the face member 2 are substantially equal. However, considering the shape of the golf club head, the length of the face member 2 is 1.3 to less than the width of the face member 2. 2.2 times, preferably 1.5 to 2.0 times, more preferably 1.65 to 2.0 times.
1.9 times is better.

The outer shapes of the face member 2 and the face reinforcing member 3 are slightly smaller than the opening 7 of the head body 10, and a flange or an edge (not shown) formed in the opening 7.
It can be prevented from dropping by placing it on the top (with the opening 7 facing upward). More preferably, the outer shape of the face reinforcing member 3 is larger than that of the face member 2,
0.3 to 2.0 mm larger, so that the head body 1
0, the face member 2 and the face reinforcing member 3 can be welded at the same time, the processing steps can be omitted, and the manufacturing time and the processing cost can be reduced. If the size of the outer shape is less than 0.3 mm, the size becomes almost the same as the face member 2, and it is difficult to obtain the effect of changing the size.
If it exceeds 2.6 mm, there is too much difference in size, and it becomes difficult to weld the face member 2 and the face reinforcing member 3 to the head main body 10 at one time.

The head body 10 is made of cast 6Al-4V-T.
The edge portion was formed of an i-alloy, and the edge portion of the opening portion 7 to be welded to the face member 2 was 3.5 mm in thickness. The face member 2 is made of a rolled material (SP) of 2.0 mm thick titanium alloy.
700) was punched into a desired shape, and then processed into a roll radius of 250 mm and a bulge radius of 250 mm by press molding. On the back surface of the face member 2 thus processed, a face reinforcing member 3 approximately 1.0 mm larger than the face surface is pressed using a similar rolled material (SP700), and a roll radius of 300 mm and a bulge radius of 300 mm. Processed to. The peripheral edge portion 3B for welding of the face reinforcing member 3 is set within a range of 3 mm from the edge forming the outer shape, has a thickness of 2.0 mm, and is not processed with holes or the like. Similarly, the belt-shaped portion 3A including the face center C and the sweet spot S is a region having a width of 38 mm in the vertical direction, and is not processed with holes or the like. In each of the regions X and Y surrounded by the peripheral portion 3B and the band portion 3A, ten small holes 20 are provided.
A, 30A were provided with a diameter of 6 mm. The head body 10 is placed on a flange (not shown) provided at the periphery of the opening 7 of the head body 10 so that the edge and the face surface of the face member 2 are flush with each other. The face member 2 and the face reinforcing member 3 were fixed by welding. The face member 2 was overlaid on the face reinforcing member 3, and the outer peripheral portion of the face member 2 and the upper surface of the face reinforcing member 3 were temporarily fixed by spot welding. Four face members 2 were placed on the flange portions extending toward the center of the opening 7 in the opening 7 of the head body 10 and fixed by arc welding in an argon gas atmosphere. Thereafter, the face was polished and flattened, and then score lines were engraved on the face.
The golf club head thus produced was assembled into a golf club as shown in Table 1 below, and a test hit evaluation was performed. The results are as shown in Tables 2 and 3. Table 2 shows the evaluation when hitting the ball with the center, and Table 3 shows the evaluation when off-center hit.

As described above, according to the present invention,
A hole occupying the majority of the area is formed in the left and right areas formed except for the peripheral edge on the left and right sides of the belt-shaped part of the face reinforcing member extending vertically including the face center and the sweet spot of the face part or in the area. Since multiple small holes are formed, the strength of the face part is maintained, the depth of the center of gravity is increased, and the head is enlarged to increase the moment of inertia around the center of gravity of the golf club while taking advantage of the features of the double face structure. The freedom of design can be increased.
