Abstract

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To define the selecting condition in a significant input system that is automatically extracted, to change the selecting sequence and then to select the desired input system of a user in an easy-to-understand way and in a small operating times as less as possible by recognizing connection or non-connection of an external device and also application or non-application of power of the external device. SOLUTION: The connecting situations of various video devices connected to a signal switching device 2 are recognized via a terminal plate 1 and a microcomputer 5. The application or non-application of power of an external device is detected by a synchronizing signal detection circuit 3 and a noise signal detection circuit 4 based on the signals which are successively switched by the device 2 and then recognized by the microcomputer 5. The microcomputer 5 stores these information and shows its state to a user via an on-screen display CRT. The user decides his desired input system among the choices shown on an on-screen display CRT by means of a remote control transmitter 6.

In the case of the above conventional configuration,
As the number of input systems of the television receiver increases, the number of switch operations required until a desired input system is selected increases, and there is a problem that the operational feeling of the user is greatly impaired. Also, in order to improve this, in a television receiver having an input system direct changeover switch for each input system, the number of switches must be increased as the number of input systems increases, and the switches cannot be physically arranged or the number of switches cannot be increased. There is a problem that it is difficult to find a desired switch because the number of switches is too large.

The microcomputer displays the status on-screen, and indicates to the user which input system is connected to the video device and which device is powered on. The user indicates a desired input system from the on-screen display by a remote control transmitter having a pointing device and switches the input system. Alternatively, the input system to be selected can be automatically limited to a meaningful input system by a switch that sequentially switches the input system each time the button is pressed from the above information, or the number of user operations can be changed by rearranging the order of the selected input systems. Can be effectively reduced, and a television receiver with improved input switching operation feeling can be configured.
