DESCRIZIONE DESCRIPTION
A. THE FIELD OF TECHNIQUE TO WHICH THE INVENTION REFERS The invention refers to the field of application of the assessment of the creditworthiness of companies that issue bonds of various kinds. In particular, the invention consists in the quantitative model of credit evaluation of a company based on the probability of default and is expressed according to a numerical logic that makes it possible to compare with TÃŒSCORING.
B. STATO DELLA TECNICA A CUI L’INVENZIONE FA RIFERIMENTO B. STATE OF THE TECHNIQUE TO WHICH THE INVENTION REFERS
The current state of the art to which the invention refers provides that rating agencies carry out qualitative and quantitative assessments of the companies issuing the bonds and issue a credit rating on the basis of the information received. The current criterion requires issuing companies to pay rating agencies, with a consequent inevitable conflict of interest. Although quantitative credit evaluation models exist based on the logic described in point C.2, the criteria for transforming the probabilities of bankruptcy into a numerical evaluation table are not known to the art.
Due to their alphabetical rather than numerical structure, it is impossible, or in any case very complicated, to create average assessments of the credit risk of an investment portfolio made up of several bonds.
C. ESPOSIZIONE DELL'INVENZIONE C. EXPLANATION OF THE INVENTION
1. Premessa 1. Introduction
This document is intended to describe the logic and basic operation of the process that leads to the assessment of a company's credit based on the iRATING system.
Quantitative model for calculating the probabilities of failure
I modello utilizzato per valutare le probabilità di fallimento di una società à ̈ noto alla tecnica c si riferisce al modello di Merton (1973) "Theory of Rational Option Pricing" e Black and Scholes (1973) "The Pricing of Option and Corporate Liabilities", con una evoluzione proprietaria che non à ̈ oggetto del presente brevetto. The model used to evaluate the probability of bankruptcy of a company is known to the technique c refers to the model of Merton (1973) "Theory of Rational Option Pricing" and Black and Scholes (1973) "The Pricing of Option and Corporate Liabilities" , with a proprietary evolution that is not the subject of this patent.
This model, at the basis of the evaluation of the probability of bankruptcy, analyzes a series of parameters, to evaluate the probability of bankruptcy of a company, assuming that when the company has more debts than real value, entrepreneurs would prefer to close the company or at least restructure the debt.
The main parameters used are: short-term debt, long-term debt, stock market capitalization, asset volatility, growth trend, sector to which it belongs.
These parameters allow to estimate with good precision, but above all in an objective and independent way, the probabilities of bankruptcy of a company in one year.
Criterion of conversion from probability of failure into iRATING
Once the probabilities of bankruptcy of a company have been obtained, a conversion table (drawing n.1) allows to transform these probabilities into a vote between 1 and 10, where 10 represents the best possible evaluation of the company, while 1 represents a probability very high failure rate of more than 30%.
Following this conversion, it is possible to create a classification (ranking) of the best and worst companies, according to a numerical "report card" that is easy to understand for the users of ÃŒRATING, as they will be able to easily compare the various companies even in different sectors.
Criterion for finding the average iRATING of several companies
In order to calculate the average iRATING of several companies that make up an investment portfolio, it is necessary to follow the procedure described below:
1) la conversione del ÌRATTNG in probabilità di fallimento seconda la tabella del disegno 2 1) the conversion of the ÌRATTNG into probability of failure according to the table in drawing 2
2) calcolo delle probabilità di fallimento ponderate per il peso in portafoglio 2) calculation of the probabilities of failure weighted by the weight in the portfolio
3) la ri -conversione del risultato in ÃŒRATING utilizzando la tabella del disegno n.1 3) the re-conversion of the result into ÃŒRATING using the table of drawing n.1
This operation is especially necessary if you have to mediate companies with very different iRATings, as the differences in the result compared to a weighted average of the iRATings could be very significant.
5. Modalità di interpretazione dei risultati 5. Methods of interpretation of the results
In the world of financial rating, companies are divided into two main categories, investment grade and non investment grade. Each rating agency has assigned a threshold to segment the investable universe. The S&P rating agency considers companies rated below BB to be non-investment grade. Moody's rating agency considers companies rated below Ba as non-investment grade. The rating agency Fitch considers companies rated below BB as non-investment grade.
According to the ÃŒRATING evaluation criterion, companies are no longer to be considered investment grade when the grade is less than 6, a value which is also widely used in the common meaning of school evaluation.
