Claims (1)

1. radiated energy within said region of space varies with at least one of the components of angular direction from said antenna system comprising an antenna unit capable of radiating a plurality of beams in different directions said region of space from a common and having plurality of wave energy input ports such that each of said ports corresponds to one of said beams characterized in that means are provided for simultaneously supplying a plurality of wave energy signals during said time one to each of said ports of said antenna each of said energy signals having a measured with respect to a selected reference which varies during said time period between a predetermined pair of values that is unique with respect to the pair associated with any other said wave energy An antenna system as specified in claim 1 characterized in that said means for supplying wave energy signals comprises means for individually controlling the phase of wave energy signals supplied to each of the ports of said antenna unit such that each of said wave energy signals has a measured with respect to a selected reference which varies during said time period between a determined pair of values that is unique with respect to the pair associated with any other of said wave energy signals and means for simultaneously supplying wave energy signals during said time period to said antenna ports via said phase control whereby when said wave energy signals are led by said phase control means and supplied to said antenna said antenna radiates said desired radiation An antenna system as specified in claim characterized in that said means for controlling the phase of the supplied wave energy signals comprises a plurality of phase shifters and means for controlling said phase An antenna system as specified in claim characterized in that said means for controlling the phase of the supplied wave energy signals comprises a plurality of mixing devices and means for generating a pluralit of phase control signals for mixing with said wave energy An antenna system as specified in claim 3 or characterized in that the means for supplying wave energy signals to said antenna ports includes means for converting the frequency of said signals at the outputs of said phase control An antenna as specified in claim characterized in that the means for coupling said antenna ports to said elements comprises a matrix of transmission lines and couplers An antenna system as specified in claim characterized in that said array of antenna elements is a linear array of wherein the number of said input ports is equal to the number of said elements and that said means for coupling said ports to said elements comprises a Butler An antenna as specified in claim characterized in that the means for coupling said antenna ports to said elements includes a matrix operating at a quency other than the frequency to be radiated whose inputs are connected to said antenna ports and whose outputs are connected to said elements by a plurality of means for converting the frequency of wave energy insufficientOCRQuality
