Description
42116/IL/21- A DRONE WITH LANDING CAPABILITY ON UNUNIFORM TERRAINS Field of the Invention The present invention relates to the field of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). More particularly, the invention relates to a drone with landing capability on ununiform terrains.
Background of the Invention Nowadays, drones are used for performing various tasks, such as transportation, shooting, photographing, etc.
During performing other tasks, the drone may be required to land on different areas, where some of them are ununiform terrains, such as mountains, hills, a street with sidewalk and different objects, etc.
However, landing on ununiform terrains is problematic because the landing legs of a conventional drone are fixed and cannot fold. In case the ground is ununiform, a drone with fixed legs that cannot fold can overturn while landing and consequently, be disabled and no longer be used (since there is no physical access to it).
Also, landing on ununiform terrains typically causes the drone to remain in a problematic orientation, where the drone is typically inclined. Such an inclined orientation limits the ability of the drone to fulfill many tasks.
It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a drone with landing capability on ununiform terrains, without overturning.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent as the description proceeds. 42116/IL/21- Summary of the Invention A drone with landing capability on ununiform terrains, comprising: a) body, which connected to propellers for enabling the drone to fly; b) arms for holding the propellers; c) folding landing legs for enabling the drone landing on ununiform terrains; d) a plurality of precise servo motors located at the pivots of the folding legs, for folding the landing legs to a desired height and angle, according to the ground shape and conditions; and e) a camera with 3D image processing software, for analyzing the field shape and conditions to obtain height differences and for preparing the folding landing legs in advance and determine which landing legs need to fold to which height and angle, for preventing the drone from overturning.
The folding landing legs may be telescopic legs.
The landing legs may have a teeth-sharp ending for setting and stabilizing the drone on the ground, according to the shape and conditions of the ground.
The image processing may be made by analyzing shades, shadows, shadow directions, and known dimensions of identified objects such as light poles, sidewalk, etc. and performing extrapolation to these known dimensions, in order to calculate in advance which landing legs need to fold and to each height and angle, for preventing the drone to overturning. 42116/IL/21- Brief Description of the Drawings The above and other characteristics and advantages of the invention will be better understood through the following illustrative and non-limitative detailed description of preferred embodiments thereof, with reference to the appended drawings, wherein:- Fig. 1 shows a picture of the drone and its parts outside in the street which is ununiform terrain, according to an embodiment of the present invention;- Fig. 2 shows a picture of the drone and its parts, while flying in the air;- Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of the drone and its parts, according to an embodiment of the present invention;- Fig. 4 shows another perspective view shown in Fig. 1; and- Fig. 5 shows a picture of the drone and its parts outside in a mountain area (such as sandhills), according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Detailed Description of the Invention The present invention provides a drone with landing capability on ununiform terrains without overturning (which causes it to be taken out of action). The drone has folding landing legs, which can fold according to the field shape.
Fig. 1 shows a picture of the drone 1 and its parts outside in the street which is ununiform terrain, according to an embodiment of the present invention. The drone body 2 is connected to six propellers 3 by six arms 3a. At the bottom of the drone body 2, there is a load 4 (a container with cargo, when necessary). The drone has four folding landing legs 5 which enable the drone to land on ununiform terrains without overturning, by folding the legs 5 according to the ground shape as shown in Fig. 1. One of the legs 5 is folding to fit the height of the leg to the height of a wooden surface 6, in such a way that the drone 1 will remain straight and will not 42116/IL/21- overturn. Another leg 5 is folding to fit the height of the leg to the height of a little brick 7 located on the other side, in such a way that the drone 1 will remain straight and will not overturn. In the bottom of the action box, there is a camera 8 with 3D image processing software for analyzing the field shape and conditions, and by that, prepare the folding landing legs in advance which legs need to fold and to each height and angle, for preventing from said drone to overturn. The image processing is made by analyzing shades, shadows, shadow directions, and known dimensions of identified objects such as light poles, sidewalks, etc., and performing extrapolation to these known dimensions. The folding landing legs 5 have teeth-sharp ending 9 for set and stabilize the drone on the ground according to the shape and conditions of the ground. The folding of the landing legs 5 is allowed by accurate servo motors in controlled axes, located on the landing legs. These motors calculate the precise height and angle the legs 5 need to fold for suiting the drone to the shape and conditions of the ground.
Fig. 2 shows a picture of the drone 1 and its parts, while flying in the air.
Fig. 3 shows a perspective view of the drone 1 and its parts, according to an embodiment of the present invention.
Fig. 4 shows another perspective view of the same picture shown in Fig. 1, in which the drone 1 is outside in the street and the folding landing legs 5 fit itself to the ununiform terrain with the wooden surface 6 and a brick 7.
Fig. 5 shows a picture of the drone 1 and its parts outside in a mountain area (sandhills), according to an embodiment of the present invention. The folding landing legs 5 fit themselves to the different heights and angles of the sandhills.
