Description

vMEANS'FOR LOCATING PEACE ..
This invention relates to a device which indicates the direction at which a place on the globe is located in relation to a second place.
By way of example: the device would indicate to a person vho is present, say in London in which direction Jerusalem is positioned. Thus a Jew in London could establish whereto to face when praying, or to a Moslem at what direction to turn to be facing Mecca when that person actually is in London or any other place in Europe m: the Americas.
I According to the invention the new device comprises. a compass box, a compass and needle, a table indicating in cif .M l.ar arrangement three hundred and sixty degrees ,'of the :ircle representing the line, of longitude of !the globe, and a direction indicating sign, e.g. an jiarrow, the cornpaES needle plying on itE pivot at the centre of the said circle, the said circular table and the said indicating Eign being located in the plane of the compass box.
The invention will now be described in detail with reference to the appended drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the new device.
Fig. 2 being a plane view Fig. a literal, elevational view Turning ί irst to figure 1, the device comprises a compass l>ox 1 consisting of a base 1' and a hinged on lid In the centre of the base 1' is located a compass of generally known type which comprises the magnetic needle 4 which plies on its pivot (not seen in the drawings) and permanantly points due North.
On the uppermost surface of base 1' is drawn a circle at the ci rcumference of which are indicated the numerals - 360 representing the lines of longitude of the globe. The pivot of the needle 4 rises from the centre of the circle.
In the I ' d 2 are indicated by name a number of locations on the lobe and beside each name of a place appears the numl.i c i of the respective line of longitude or the angular position of that place relative to the name indicate':'. On the same surface appears a direction indicate! in the shape of an arrow 5.
The device is to be used in the following way: The user , who is present at whatever location "X" and wishing to ascertain direction of Rome relative to the said X, places the device on a horizontal surface with the lid in open position. He then finds the longitude i o'f Rome being "246" as shown in the table at the inside o!f the lid 2. He then rotates the box, including the lid unti. I. the end of needle 4 which is opposite the "North" indicating end (and is black in Fig. 2) points to numeral 246, the sign 5 does now indicate the directiun at which Rome lies. This, of course, 1ε possible due to the fact that the needle 4 does not participate in the rotative movement of base 1' but continues to point "North".
Since in the example shown and described the inside of lid 2. has room only for a limited number of place names, It is advisable to have a comprehensive list of lineo of longitude on a separate paper, cardboard or metal sheet added to each device.

Claims (2)

1. ) Direction of location indicating device comprising a compass box, a compass and needle, a table indicating in circular arrangement three hundred and sixty degrees of the circle representing the lines of longitude of the globe, and a direction indicating sign, e.g. an arrow, the compass needle plying on its pivot at the centre of the said circle, the Ea'id circular table and the said indicating Eign being located in the plane of! the compass box.
2. ) The device for direction indication substantially as hereinbefore described and shown in the appended drawings.
