A plastics container 1 has a rolling hoop 2 and a split band 3 which is of metal or rigid plastics and is tightened by a bolt 8 below the hoop, handles 9 being provided on the band for lifting the container. Two hoops may be provided, the band being incorporated between the two; or the hoops may be replaced either by a channel in the container wall in which the band lies, or by a row of lugs. The container may be blow-moulded.
