Abstract

991,495. Lined packages. IVERS-LEE CO. April 8, 1963 [June 14, 1962], No. 13821/63. Heading B8C. A package for a fluent substance D consists of two layers A, B of a flexible material heat sealed together around their edges 10 with a compartment 3 for the substance and the inner surfaces being coated with a material 8 impervious and inert to the substance. The two identical sections A and B comprise an outside layer 1 of a strong flexible material bonded to an inside layer 2 of heat sealable material and are preformed by pressure moulding to provide the recess 3 for the contents and the edges 10 which are joined together by heat sealing. An impervious coating 8 is applied to the internal surfaces of the recesses 3 and extending into the boundary areas 10, so that seepage of the contents into the seam is prevented by the adjacent layers of impervious coating being squeezed together along their marginal portions 9 during the sealing operations. An extension recess 5 is provided with two notches 7 which are torn on opening to provide a discharge orifice. Heat sealing is initially applied only to zones bounding the recess 3, zones around the extension 5 being left open until after filling when they are heat sealed to complete the package.
